Where exactly did we get the whole concept of bad words? What makes them bad anyway? They're just words, which we interpret as bad.

Those words are classified as profanity. In case you forgot.

computernerd, you still haven't addressed the OP. Thank you for that wonderful link but he asked why words were considered profane, not what profanity was. Remember, this is the pub. It's for discussion, not demotivational posters.

Mr.Bouncer;5033258They're just words, which we interpret as bad.

Isn't the meaning of just about every word only an interpretation? Some words are meant to be used as compliments, some simply to inform, others to show rudeness or disgust.

Simply put, when asking why certain words are considered bad, you may as well ask why every other word is interpreted as it is. Thinking about this can get very complicated, and I already have a headache :)

Alrighty then; I would say they are considered profane because, usually, they are meant to insult someone or bring someone down: i.e. "You're a shit-head." of course, if you're not just referring to swear words, then any word that is used to make someone feel bad is also considered a bad word. Does that help you at all? [QUOTE=7;5033288]Thinking about this can get very complicated, and I already have a headache :)
