I have been reading and it seems that originally most of New Orleans was built aboe sea level.

The problem is it was built on drained and reclaimed marsh land and as Venice Italy knows the city has a tendancy to sink. The City wasnt originally on Lake Ponchatrain, the city was expanded north on reclaimed marshland to the lake.

And the wetlands south of New Orleans were much much larger than they are now.

My complaint with FEMA is that it was their policy normally to put afvance teams in place before the Hurricane and after the Hurricane was over the advance teams would move and get areas cleared, work with local goverments to asses the needs and to coordinate relief and supply efforts.

FEMA did not so this. Mike Brown waited til after the Hurricane was over and told people "Get dwn to New Orleans and Biloxi and Baton Rouge and you have 36 hours to get there.

It was also a few days after the Superbowl was filled with people and the News teams were broadcasting live from there that Mike Brown told a CNN reporter that he had no idea thatt there were people in the Superdome til she had just told him, even though it had been on the national news for 3 days. To me that means there was a serious breakdown in communications that the Director of FEMA wasnt getting information like that.

My other big complaint with FEMA is at how disorganized it has appeared. They have been turning away relief supplies because they did not know where to put it or where it needed to go. In Jefferson Parish FEMA came in and cut the power lines that were powering the police and fire stations and the hospital in order to hool their equipment up. They apparently didnt ask anyone "Hey! what are these powerlines hooked to?"

Also IMHO the Govenor should have had martial law declared and the National Guard mobilized just in case, maybe not all of them but certainly medical and military police units.

I dont think the Mayor mobilized evacuations because it seemed the worst ahd blown over and the damage wasnt bad til the Levee's broke. Im willing to bet that the flooding killed 3x more people than the storm itself did.

Bush IMHO is responsible for not funding the levee upgrades when they were requested and for letting Mke Brown control FEMA.

I never expected Bush to move US Military troops in because it was my understanding that Federal Law prohibited US Military troops from being deployed inside the United States.

I was also under the impression that Bush had the authority to activate National Guard troops who can be deployed inside the US.

USMA2010True. Hurricane Jong-Il does sound a lot worse than Katrina. Katrina evokes images of a hot Dutch girl. Jesse Jackson is actually fighting for getting people to name hurricane's with ethnic black names. Like Hurricane La Fawnduh and Sheniqua. Mind you, this is the same group of idiots that wanted Jerry Bruckheimer's ass for only showing black bad guys in Black Hawk Down.

LOL...Hurricane sheniqua.

Not sad, just ridiculous and stupid. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton just love their face on television and love exploiting blacks for their own personal gains. JJ tries to act like a moral and upstanding citizen, when in fact he has an illegitimate child. They need to do us a favor and take a permanent vacation elsewhere...
