First things first it's been a while since I posted here so howdy all!
Secondly this is not a topic about me being racist or being a victim of racism. But just recently I have met somebody who comes from South Africa, he is perhaps the most racist person I have met. Anyway we are enjoying a drink and the topic of why he is so racist came up. What I learnt was not that he was racist without reason but racist without choice, allow me to ellaborate, South Africa has had an enforced Apartheid up until 1994 so for him growing up he has always been shown that "blacks" are considered second class people for example he told me where he lived if a "black" was seen within a White area after a certain time he could/would be shot. I have no doubts in what he tells me is sincere as well as that his racism is through his geniune belief that "blacks" are a sub-standard species simply because he knows no different. My point to this all is that before I met this person my percieved view of racism was generally reserved to skin heads and thugs who are only looking for a fight. Anyway some may feel this topic is more of a ramble than anything else, but I am just curious as to others view on the topic, particulary anybody who has grown up in this type of environment. I'm not judging anyone just want to hear everyones honest point of view, for instance are you racist and why? Just for the record I don't really consider myself racist but I accept that I am a victim of the perception that all muslims are potential terrorists. (Also the sodding formatting on this post is a pain in the arse)

When my Father was younger, if you didnt get off the sidewalk when the White children walked by, you could get charged for it.

I have no experience myself, other than the occasional "Foul word", but anyone who judges people by the tone of their skin is judging in one dimension.

I'm amazed South Africa is allowed to get away with this.

My family talks about Race and ism all the time...

I have to say I find that in all our arguments I have to belive now that they're right...

Bush really doesn't care about black, hispanic, and other minorities. IT took a long time to come to that understanding....I'm refering to Kanye West's comment on the Telethon

While I always had said in the past that his comment was racist in itsself. after I saw the Katrina doc by Spike Lee...and saw and heard the comment MOMMA Bush said and I quote...

"The way I see it these people have moved a step up from where they were, look at them..."

MY GOD...This comment was made in the Astrodome as the victims flooded in. I'm aghast! This was his mother...the one that supposedly raised him

I"m also aghast that her comment wasn't made public knowledge...should people know how she and this presidential family view its poor citizens

Looks like racism is here to stay...

I used to be one to say I hate racists but that is just as one minded as some racists themselves. My south african friend knows no different any experience with "blacks" has always been a negative one, he said even after apartheid was gone blacks sat with blacks and whites sat with white. Otherwise he's a decent enough bloke he can chat to pretty much anyone and seems a nice enough person, so to say I hate all racists is pretty ignorant in itself.

Those that are racist (to put bluntly) are nothing but a bunch of self-righteous tossers. I have no time for them. There is no difference (apart from the obvious skin color) between people who are White and Black. There is nothing better about one over the other. One can't do anything the other can't, they should both be seen as equals. Those that thrive on racism should be locked away for good. I've no time for them and pity them.

She's absolutely right. The displaced refugees were all given decent sums of money and moved into quiet middle class neighborhoods in Texas and other states. If anyone got the short end of the stick, it was the people already living in these areas - the flood of refugees caused the local crime rates to go up.

That's awfull Mac!

not all of those people are responisbly for the rise in crime. Not only that but this was before they ever got any assistence.

And to suggest that these people are better off...After loosing their loved owns ...and losing their...THEIR property and having to start all over again at 70 and 80 years old smacks of hypocricy.

How several thousands dollars equals to losing a life or your entire life underwater...I'll never understand that equation.
