well, he do have a rather unique inside into the 'hacker world'. i wouldn't have been surprised if the german intelligence agency had headhunted him for a job...

Im sorry to burst the bubble here but this is a regular happening. The hackers/programers/crackers that are profiled in media, by choise or not, are always headhunted for security related developement.

I think that hacking and such isn't really viewed as a 'bad' crime, I mean sure, it totally screws up people's computers, but it doesn't really hurt anyone (in a physical sense). Thats why companies feel more comfortable hiring an ex-hacker than, say, a serial killer.

He's right.

Computer security is a very specialised and rapidly expanding area. There's big bucks to be made in this profession. I deal with computer security (although I'm more of a network specialist) for a living. My employers recently hired the services of a "hacker" to test the work of my department. We came out OK, but he highlighted a few areas of concern, which we were then able to address. It was money well spent if it prevents "live" embarrassments in the future.

Yeah I am not surprised. Good luck to the dude, honestly. Although I will say it was his kind that caused this little shit worm to mess over my computer for a week. Everytime I started it up I got a message saying the computer would crash in a minute.

its sad but thats what a lot of people want to do... they make a virus that pisses off everyone (they make a name for themselfs) they go to jail for a while and when they get out they get paid lots of money to help companies safe from viruses... it pisses me off also
