When I was reading through some other forums I came across something interesting. It was an discussion about Religious headscarfs. They said it should be forbidden... Well no, I think they shouldn't be forbidden Important things you need to know before you reply: - I am only talking about head lids, so no jewellery! - I am talking about every single school - With headscarfs (I don't know whether it's the good word or not) I mean things like this: hoofddoek.jpg Why I think it shouldn't be forbidden: - Many people think that schools that do permit them, will only iterrupt the intergration of certain people. But that's not true, because the kid just have contact with other kids from other religions. So the kid does learn something about other religions. - Everyone has the right to follow their own religion (well in Holland, I'm not sure about other countries). That's in the (written) constitution. So if we don't allow it, it would be unconstitutional, right? Because in most religions the headscarf is a part of the relgion. -See the Islam. Not just a simbol for... - If it wil be forbidden the situation on schools will only get worse. Because the children that usally wear them will get the feeling that their relegion and/or country is not accepted by the school/country they are in. They will not talk to other children, because the kid thinks he isn't accepted. The kid's future will be worse. He/She just doesn't feel accepted. Also in the (written) constitution; Every human being is the same, and should be treated the same (Something like that). So again unconstitutional. - On schools this discussion is on some longer time. A cap is allowed in most schools, not in the classes itself. Because teachers find that annoying and they can't see the pupil's eyes. If we forbid headscarfs we do not treat people the way they should be, the same as anyone else. Moreover: When someone wears headscarfs you can still see the eyes. So why forbid headscarfs, and permit caps. It's not fair. You are free to reply, but only do when you have some good arguments why it should, or should not be allowed to wear headscarfs. Do not spam this page up. Also read this page before posting. And something else: it was quite hard to write this all in English, I'm Dutch so... I just hope you understand it, ánd I hope it's not that bad. Though I think it's not (-that bad). And I know there is allready a Religious Discussion Thread. But I just want to discuss this seperate from that. I'd like to hear your opinions about this...

Yes, if you are going to ban head scarves, you cannot allow pupils to wear any religous symbol, not even a cross around their necks.

I think that should be so. Headscarves and other religious symbols only segrigate the wearers from the school, showing everyone else that they're a different religion/religious. The French government's reasoning when they banned them was that exact reason. I think it should be banned, as it will reduce racism and biggotry through equality.
