What are your thoughts on these vicious animals. Was reading this http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/04/15/pitbull.attack.ap/index.html

Deanna Large, 36, who lives down the road from Sullivan, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and three misdemeanor counts of allowing a dangerous dog to run loose. If convicted on all charges, she faces up to 13 years in prison.

Bout time they start jailing these people!

As well as hundreds of other pit bull attack cases and it's really becoming an issue. Now I know they are all not bad, but that instinct is in them to be mean and aggresive. I have seen it too many times. People say a poodle can have the same vicious manner, but how often do you read about a poodle killing someone , ripping their throat apart? My buddies pit tried to attack me before. Some of these dogs are just nuts!

I think it's about time for pit bull, and other large dangerous dog owners to take full responsibility for these animals. It goes back to what I said about irresponsible pet owners. I had a neighbor that had a vicious ass pit. I couldn't even walk in my backyard without fear of that thing trying to tear me apart. It got out a few times and bit a couple people, and eventually they had to destroy it. But man I had my gun ready for that POS if it came in my yard. It seems around here the typical pit/rottie owner is the thug type. You know, I need a big powerfull dog to make up for my 5 foot height kind of person. They don't practice socializing skills with other dogs and it leads to problems down the road. I can go down the street to the animal shelter and choose from 10 pits/rotties right now. These dogs were bred for fighting, it's in their blood IMO. Ok, been up over 24 hours now. nitey nite.

What are your thoughts and experiences on this breed.

there was an instance here where a pitbull mulled a 3 yr old to death; these dogs do not make good pets! same goes for rotties, it don't take much to piss them off! but, i guess if you look cool having one of these as the family pet...

I think they should be banned. They should only use them (if at all) as police dogs where they could be properly trained. Isn't the idea of having a pet for a nice, friendly companion?

German Shepards make better Police dogs. MUCH smarter and easier to train.

As I said, some people like the appeal of owning a pitt/rottie to look tough it seems. Most times these people have no clue about animals let alone this type of breed, which leads them to be sheltered after their cute puppiness wears off. To defend some owners though, I have seen some well trained pits/rotties that are complete teddy bears. But in my case those are rare. Can you imagine just hanging out in your yard or neighborhood and along comes a loose pit/rottie aiming right at you. What do you do? What can you do? If you ain't armed you are going down, I don't care how tough you are or how many kids you can beat up ;)

no need to ban them but pit bulls should wear a muzzle so they can't harm anybody. Rottweilers can be very good companies and friendly, it really depends on the dog itself and how it was raised/trained. So no need to force all rottweiler to wear a muzzle though ones that are said to be aggresive by authorities or the vet should be forced to carry a muzzle though. Goes for other dogs aswell: if authorities say you should out it on a muzzle you MUST do so.

There is something wrong with people that keep pit bulls as pets. There is no warmth and love with a dog like that, it just surves as protection. And not to mention it's one f***ing ugly dog.

Maybe time to take that 9mm with you whenever you go outside Beef, its for self defence after all.. ;) Seriously, i think banning is a bit to bad, but as donuts suggested make people muzzle them whenever they go outside, problem fixed.

Breeding pitbulls here is illegal, and the people that do have pitbulls have a special certificate, so they know how to take care of them. Seems to work.

Soon as I get my permit to do so ;) I hope it doesn't come to banning them, but more of a special licence to own one. Too many careless people own them now. As for them not being lovable, they CAN be, I have seen it, but I am always fearfull of what the dog CAN do to me. I've been bit hard by a Dobey (my fault) , and do not plan on going through that again. It's so sad people actually buy and breed these animals to fight :( I'd like to see those people in jail and bet on other inmates tearing them apart.

That would be nice if it happened here. That sounds like a great start in dealing with this issue.

It's the owners not the breed of dogs that makes them bad, stricker laws should be inplace for animal owner ship.
