I think Taiwan should be allowed in the UN, but odds are the PRC won't ever allow it. The Taiwanese people have a right to be represented fairly.

The only way I could see China moving against Taiwan militarily is if China felt it could attack and occupy Taiwan before the UN or US could respond. I dont think China could overcome Taiwan resistance and hold off the US before the UN would do anyhting...if anything.

Never had faith in the UN doing anything like actually standing for an ideal in the first place. However the first act should be the USA officially and publicly recognizing the ROC as an independent and self governing sovereign nation. The UN, being the followers that they are, would no doubt acquiesce the point once much of the inevitable flak has been redirected.

Taiwan is an independent nation in everything but name. It should have a position in the U.N., regardless of how China feels.
