I'm spending a year dead for tax reasons.

So I found out the other day I got made redundant and I've got 4 weeks left before I am let go.
I honestly had no idea how badly it'd get to me, I just assumed it was one of those things that happens and you get over it kinda quickly but its really made me kinda depressed. I'm just worried about my financial situation now with a house and whatnot, I know there are people in worse places than me but it still worries me to death.
To be honest I feel loads of different things but mostly im just worried about what I'm gonna do. I've started applying for stuff but I just feel kinda worthless right now so I don't think I'll get anything before I run out of time. I have no savings and I wont get redundancy money cause of a loophole in the way I was employed (contractually only been there a year even though I've worked for them for 3)
So I dont even know. Just my head's a bit of a mess.

Sorry to hear that. Being suddenly laid off can have quite a bit of an effect on one's self-esteem. I'm sure you'll pull through though. If you already applied to some other jobs then you are probably taking it better than most.

You always feel you're prepared for it until it happens. At the end of ZD owning us I felt I was ready for them to let us go at anytime, and when it finally happened, the reality set in about it and I felt almost the same as you do. Although I probably had a bit more rage and swearing involved in my version. I know demonseed and zerozombie certainly did.

Yeah, getting fucked over's a bit of a kick in the teeth. What can you do about improving the situation? Do you have anyone you can stay with; parents, friends? Do you have mortgage insurance?
If you don't think you're likely to find anything in the time you have before you get kicked out it may be better to liquidate the assets you have ahead of time.

Yeah, that's nice and all in a world where economies are more fruitful.
That sucks ass FT. My wife got laid off from her computer tech job two years ago and has had a hard time finding work in the field. Not a big suprise, really. I mean, the industry during the 90's was flooded with eager college grads (like my wife) into positions by the butt-load. Now in the present tense computer geeks are a dime a dozen. Why pay $30 - 60 or more for an outstanding employee when you can get more or less the same thing from a fresh out of college grunt. It's about the bottom line after all! Pay them little more than minimum wage for the same position and if they can't figure out what needs to be done or bulk about getting more money, than shit can them and hire the next dude willing to do the job for peanuts just to get their foot in the door.
anywho I digress.
I hope things work out for you FT. We had to survive on CC until my wife was fortunate enough to find a Customer Service job in a relative field. Sucks though. She hates her job. Doesn't pay as much as her IT job, but it gets us by.
Best of luck.;)
You should become a criminal. Instead of asking for stuff like a slave, take it. First step: get as much confidential information from your company and sell it anonymously. That way after you get out of prison for information theft you'll have a nice little sum socked away.

Sorry to hear that Danny. I was in the same boat last year and went through the same feelings. It'll pass, you just need to keep applying for jobs that interest you. In the interim get a part-time job or something simple to bring some extra money in it - it'll help with the bills a lot more than Jobseeker's allowance will, and it'll help get rid of those feelings of worthlessness.
You're in a better position to be unemployed this year than I was last year, for at least the job market is picking up now.

I can never tell when you're being sarcastic or serious.
