Because Bush needed to know if it's appropiate to go on WC in the middle of his speech for 150 world leaders. It isn't that small thing actually: it may not look that good for some people if you leave to WC on such an important moment in so important place.

Okay, we are talking about a grown up here, who is the president of the USA, one of the strongest country in the world...and when one has to go, one has to go. What if Rice would have said no?...will he pee in or something...ahh, whatever...

 Imagine you were in that situation. Most of the people in that room dispise you anyways, so I would just get up and leave. But then again, I'm an asshole.

He had a choice of continuing his speech and trying to hold his distress. Yes, he is a grown up, president of the USA etc. but is it that straight-forward thing? Is it okay to possibly annoy many world leaders if you just leave to WC in the middle of the speech?

We can assume that if you're going to keep an important speech in important place in the middle of important people, you have to prepare for it well like going to WC and/or drinking less liquid before the speech. In my opinion, it doesn't look too good if you leave to WC in such conditions.

Besides, I can't see what Bush did wrong when he consulted Rice first, what he did lose with that? That's all I have to say about this issue.

Dude, it isn't one of the strongest, it IS the strongest country in the world, atleast now as we write.

haha.. you can imagine the tension as bush is in the room, the pen taps and the clock ticks. as Bush leaves the room, the door closes slowly creating a long creaking noise. As the door latches closed, president Shirack throws a paper ball over to Tony, Tony ducks and the paper ball hits Rice in the face.. a small paper fight breaks out, paper with "what can we do about that place a long way away that keeps asking for money" and "so, whats with that Cherrie Blairs face?" are being lunged across the room. 5 minutes passes and as the door opens again, the leaders it down quickly each with a repressed smile on their face, Tony's tie is crooked and Rice's shirt sleeves have been rolled up. Bush sits down. Rice slips some laxitive into Georges coffee ready for the next toilet break. the silence and tapping begins again. but anyhow, back to the point, I guess because it was such an important conference, he didnt want to leave for a few minutes incase anything happened or to distrupt the flow of things.

Maybe so, it is still highly inapropriate. Especially when it comes to a UN summit. As you well said, he should have gone earlier... Ehmm...why consult Rice is still the question. What could he have gained from consulting Rice? If she said yes, he would go. If no, who knows...I don't see how Rice fits in all this. Anyway, it still is funny:D

Meh, as some have said, alot of the leaders dont like him. Why didnt he just do it then and there, and hope no-one noticed? All he'd have to do was sit there till everyone else had gone. Maybe spill something down himself as well as a sligh 'saving-face' matter.

Whats so hard about saying "exuse me for a few moments" stand up, leave, do your thing and come back? I don't really care what your status is or who you are if you go to go you got to go. A bit needless to ask for advice if you ask me :uhm: . Next thing we may see is him writing a note asking permission to fart
