I've been browsing the spam forum a lot lately, ;) and I was just wondering if the thoughts and sentiments expressed in the Cool American Club and the Cool Dutch Club are for "real", or part of the tongue-in-cheek humor(is that the right way to say it?) that pervades the place?

Now, I'm not saying there can't be anything serious in the Spam Forum, but hey, it's the Spam Forum, everything is suspect right?=p

It's tounge in cheek, like E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G that goes on in there.

I would hazard a guess that it is a mix of both. On the one hand the people posting no doubt have some patriotic feelings but they don't go nearly as far as we take them. But it's the Spam forum so ridiculousness is the norm.

In that respect the American thread is a lot different from the Dutch thread. It seems the American thread is only filled with over-nationalistic nonsense, where as you will find non of that in the Dutch thread.

It's the damn Spam Forum, What do you expect? We love our country, and are not afraid to be vocal or particularly silly about it.

Well the Dutch thread was created for harmless casual talks in Dutch and it seems to be do doing pretty. It has no nationalistic posts at all apart from the odd joke ("Polska you will never be truely cool and Dutch like us"). Can't say I check the American thread often but is filled with a lot of nationalistic posts (even if in jest). I'm glad that the Dutchthread (which also was the "first" nation dedicated thread) only is seeing casual talk though, I wouldn't contribute to a thread piling over with nationalistic nonsense.

That being said, it is the spam forum. Anything goes there except porn.

In all but a few cases* I would suspect that it's over-stated joking based on potentially real feelings, but that would just be a guess. Many jokes have roots in reality, after all.

* Ha, see that? Disclaimer, that is! Anyone who complains, will automatically get the 'guilty conscience' speech!
