jAkYou shouldn't be, because you shouldn't have to be using it in the first place.
In my old computer I had popups coming up every 10min.
On my new PC I have firefox, so you are correct. But I nevertheless scan every night before going to bed, just to check.
I use Opera, its the best.
And, my last computer stuffed up so many times because of adaware. Its no-longer usable. My new computer, ive had to install 4 firewalls, 4 Adaware programs, and 3 antivirus programs before i feel safe, and im stilll weary...
anyone here uses Mozilla Firefox? the strange thing is that since i surfed in the net with Firefox my spybot and adaware never found anything anymore...
The best thing to do is be careful, but the people this affects the worst are those who are inexperienced with computers, who perhaps just want to do some web browsing on, say, a family computer, and don't know what they're getting themselves into. We're all fine, we can run more secure browsers and get programs to destroy the stuff, but there are many people who've never heard of any of it. They're the ones that really suffer and it isn't fair on them at all.
little bastard i hope he gets sent to jail
Yes, SpyBot: Search and Destroy and AdAware SE are the best combo for killing off Spyware/Adware.
Yes, I have those, and I run them regularly, but I still have adware/spyware (even if I scan my entire computer using Ad-Aware). It's been like forever since Ad-Aware had an update, so I don't think they're really supporting their freeware version anymore. The point is that I still get adware/spyware even after using these programs.
Yeah I recommend using a combo of proggies. Also using FireFox is HIGHLY recommended to stop a lot of junk before it even tries to get to your computer.
The problem I have with FireFox is that a lot websites I've tried to view with it haven't worked or have looked really really crappy with it (whereas they looked nice with IE). I don't think FireFox recognizes some of the HTML tags and such that IE recognizes. I've also tried to view one of my own (well-formed) HTML pages, and it came out the way it was supposed to with IE but not with FireFox.
not that it matters, but I use a three front combo, 1) Spy-Bot Search and Destroy 2) Ad-Aware 3) Hijack This which is really good about getting out programs that neither spy-bot nor ad-aware can find like that crappy search page program that redirects you from lagit sites LIKE MY PROJECT FORUMS to their crappy search page. I have to periodically do this now . . . has a rather suspicious coincidence of being at the exact time I installed the new Windows XP service pack . . . .
My computer is completely clean as far as I know. I use AdAware, Spybot S&D, Hijack This and Mozilla Firefox. Nothing gets through at all. Above all I'm careful about the pages I go to and I monitor the running processes in the Task Manager like a hawk so I can tell at a glance when something is running if it shouldn't be. Bear in mind that Hijack This doesn't remove Adware or Spyware, all it does is remove the entry in the registry that makes it start when Windows does. Effectively, it stops the programs from running. You have to know what you're doing with it though.

I do ;)
Didn't Hijack This! stop being freeware a while ago? I used to have it, but it said something about it not being freeware anymore.
