I'd like to start out by saying this, I personally believe that the U.N. is a worthless, anti-American, socialist organization that could never help to improve the world ever. I was aware of the Genocide going on in Sudan but never really knew to much about it, until a few days ago in history class when two upper classmen came around asking for donations to help with the refugee situation there. They said that any donations given would go through the U.N. and directly to the refugee camps.

When I heard about this preposterous idea of sending money through the UN to help these refugee's I said now hold on just a second. The UN supported a program called the oil for food program, which basically allowed Iraq to export oil in exchange for food. I went on to say that Iraq exported almost 30 billion dollars in oil but, somehow, 21 BILLION, billion mind you, made it into the pockets of UN officials.

After hearing this the two people asking for donations hesitated and said well yes but this isn't something of nearly that magnitude, these are just meager donations. I replied but how can we trust the UN if they basically robbed the Iraqi people of 21 billion dollars. And besides what has the UN done to try and stop the Genocide any way, except shake their finger at the Islamic people who are committing it and say now I’ll give u 90 days to stop. 90 days later guess what they're still it and it repeats itself. After listing to this I left two juniors in front of my class looking kind of stupid.

My point is that the UN is not doing anything of significance to try and stop this genocide. However if the Christian population were committing the genocide/ racial clensing the UN would make sure their heads would role, example Bosnia. This my friends is not right at all. This proves that the UN is worthless and is bias. I want to hear your thoughts on this. As a Christian I’m deeply troubled by this and would love to donate anything that I can but not through the UN. I would also like to know if the UN has done anything upstanding and right and unbiased since the Korean War?

The situation in Sudan is as Colin Powell said it was, ethnic cleansing. Both sides [Sudanese Gov't + Janjaweed and SLA] actively attack the others' towns, rape their women, torture and in some cases even enslave prisoners. As for Christianity and its role, look at Uganda, the radical Christian "Lord's Resistance Army", massacres entire towns, trains child soldiers, tortures and maims people, and many other things. The problem is not the UN but global apathy to do anything. In Sudan, the conflict continues due to a lucrative arms trade against UN and EU embargoes but still kept up by countries from both [arming both parties] for Sudan's oil.

What has the UN done that was upstanding since Korea? Peacekeeping, keeping the world from annihilation [in some form or another], vaccinated the child of the world, wiped out smallpox and other harmful diseases. Frankly, the UN has done a lot that has gone unnoticed by the world awestruck on conflict.

PS: Try not to type in black, its hard for us people using darker 'styles' to read.

The SLA does not attack/rape/torture, they are the ones who are defending the ethnic blacks from the arabs, they were formed. The UN is doing little with Sudan, other nations need to step up to help, because the UN's sanctions are just hurting the situation, not helping. Also, the Sudanese conflict shows that ultra-radical islamics are not just anti-west, but also anti-black.

As in past conflicts crimes have been committed by both sides: Dresden [WWII], Russians skinned alive by Mujahideen [1980s Afghan War], My Lai Massacre [Vietnam War], etc. Amnesty International
Amnesty InternationalDuring 20 years of war in the south the Sudanese armed forces and militias supported by the government killed, raped and abducted thousands of Sudanese. At the same time the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), militias allied to the SPLA and independent militias killed and raped with equal impunity.
Both sides have been accused of committing serious human rights violations, including mass killing, looting, and rapes of the civilian population. However, the better-armed Janjaweed quickly gained the upper hand. By the spring of 2004, several thousand people — mostly from the non-Arab population — had been killed and as many as a million more had been driven from their homes, causing a major humanitarian crisis in the region. The crisis took on an international dimension when over 100,000 refugees poured into neighbouring Chad, pursued by Janjaweed militiamen, who clashed with Chadian government forces along the border. More than 70 militiamen and 10 Chadian soldiers were killed in one gun battle in April.

Nobody cares about Sudan, there's nothing there. America's not gonna do anything. What does America get out of it? Nothing. The UN isn't gonna do anything about it. What do they get besides dead UN peacekeepers? Absolutely nothing. There's nothing to gain from taking Sudan and bringing the Sudanese Muslims, Christians, whatever peace. Sudan has no political or monetary value and this world runs on money and power. People dying and fleeing and being raped, tortured and killed means nothing anymore. There's gotta be money to be made somewhere for there to be any interest. There's no money in Sudan so there will be no interest. So if you're not gonna pay some local charity to help Sudanese Christians that are fleeing a massacre yet you still find yourself concerned at the end of the day, go use that money for a plane ticket to Sudan and do something about it. Don't want to do anything about it? That's what I thought. It's funny the way this world works, isn't it? Actually, it's not very funny at all. Is it the truth, though? Straight up. Good luck finding that charity you'd like to donate money to. Maybe they'll stop the rape, torture and killing. My money's on the fact that they won't and people will still get raped, tortured and killed. And no one will do a damn thing about it. Not the UN. Not the US. Not a single member of the free world outside of Sudan is gonna do anything about it. Whew, I love politics.

Please stop blaming the UN for everything. I'm getting tired of it. It's just a big "blame game" with guys like you. The real villains are the corporations that participated in the scandal.

The real villains are the members of the UN that participated in the scandal. It may sound like I am mocking you, but it is to prove a point, do you know how hypocritical you sound? You tell us (Conservatives) to stop blaming the UN and that it is just a big "blame game" with guys like us, then you turn around and blame the corporations?!?!?! Why should I listen to you, when you can't even follow your own advice! About the Sudan, Why not send in the Nigerians (and other African Nations?) as the UN did in Liberia for peacekeeping and such.
