I thought that this news story was interesting when I heard about it this afternoon. Apparently, a 9-year-old girl stabbed an 11-year-old girl in the chest with a steak knife over a ball. The 11-year-old was pronounced dead later at a hospital. The 9-year-old girl faces manslaughter charges, making her the youngest person ever to face these charges. The full story can be found on CNN.com http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/31/girl.stabbed.ap/index.html I find it a very interesting story indeed on how the impulse of anger can cause anyone to do stupid things. In my mind, the 9-year-old was mad that she did not have the ball and saw the knife, and thinking that knives hurt and possibly seeing that knives hurt on TV or other media, and stabbed the 11-year-old out of childish anger just to get her to let go of the ball, not thinking that it would be fatal. I don't blame anybody or anything for the reasons why the stabbing occured, this is just why I think the 9-year-old did what she did, out of childish, blind, innocent anger and not from intention. My brother did ask a good question about this, being in disbelief about this; what will happen to the 9-year-old if she is found guilty. Personally, I assume that she will go to Juvenille Hall for a few years and maybe jail after she turns 18 (or 21), as required by law for both the 18 thing and the manslauter sentencing. She could face life in prison for manslaughter, which would devestate her life since she has lived so little of it in freedom. It is an interesting question of what will become of her if she is found guilty. It is also an interesting question of what will become of her period, regardless of the verdict or the charges, knowing that she killed a fellow 11-year-old out of childish anger over a ball.

Bad parenting was probably a factor.

Killer Kyle I find it a very interesting story indeed on how the impulse of anger can cause anyone to do stupid things.
That's why concealed weapons are a bad idea.

Interesting that they only pressed manslaughter charges, legally (not ethically) that counts as 2nd Degree Murder. I think that at age nine, she new that it could be fatal, just didn't realize the full consequences of what death is.
"She was a little thug," neighbor Diva McPhatter told the Daily News. "I always asked her to behave, but she was rude. She fought all the time. She was out of control. I'd confront her, but she'd just roll her eyes."

It looks like she's already being tried by the media.

i know girls do alot of backsatabbing to each other...but the chest? In all seriousness, this 9 yr old is gonna have one hell of a life. Having killed at the age of 9, she's gonna be mentally scared and an emotional wreck for life.

What Killer Kyle posted mostly covers what the 9 year old could had in her mind, but I'd like to know exactly what was running through her head when she picked up the knife and stabbed the 11 year old. She must of really had some bad influences to pull it off. I think it's a bad parenting; the parents let the girl watch bad TV and the 9 year old's imagination took her away from real life, making her think that the knife only 'hurts'.

This is quite an extraordinary case, I must say. I personally feel that, since she is just a 9-year-old little girl who immaturely put no thought into the possible concequences of her actions, juvenile hall and certainly prison should be out of the question, at least for the time being. She should be put through heavy counseling, along with her parents, to determine what the reasons could have been for this, whether it was simply childish anger taken to an extreme level, or perhaps family problems possibly involving lousy parenting and/or abuse.

Very sadly, though, I'm afraid that this is not going to happen and that she is going to be subjected to a much harsher penalty at too young of an age that will all but ruin her childhood and probably her life instead of redeem her. :(

lol we are going backwards in the evolution of killing, soon wars will be won by who has the biggest nail on their stick. This is a really odd type of thing when I was 9 I would just hit someone if they stole a ball or something but what drives a 9 year old to go grab a knife......the kid must have some mental issues. If she spends all of her life in prison then so what she took another human life that is the law shes just lucky we are not in the dark ages and she isnt executed.
