The Critical Unraveling of U.S. Society | Amped Status

This is why I love the internet so much. Independent reporting that is spot on. Shame that the article tells us how we're getting fucked, but omits how to prevent/stop it. :D

I behoove you all to read it in its entirety.

Just a quick obervation but what's with all these "boogieman" words? Scare words like "the liberal/economic/... elite" (how many "elites" are their out there exactly? What makes them elite? And why should I care?) , "the (mainstream) media" and a dozen -isms to be afraid of?

It makes me think "Ugh, yeah yeah a certain force, out of reach and out of touch is out to get you, all of you, to destroy your country/society... YAWN :cort: ".

*reads article*

That's the glorious capitalism (well as close as one can come to true capitalism) for you. Toss the public a bone, make them buy into the "you could be succesfull to and become filthy rich and powerfull", leave out the "nevermind that pretty much all of you won't ever reach that goal though, it's near impossible for most of you" bit and have a laugh. Sugar coat it with some scary words, lobbying and funding of politicians and yor all set.

ait, did I just answe my own question? =p

Edit: THough I could perhaps agree with the general story of this article it seems to be written in a "you better be very afraid!" type of style aswell. Ugh.

I was hoping someone would say what I can't figure out how to say and what I don't have the details to figure out. I'm not even going to pretend I have a suggestion that can save the US from at the very least falling from its #1 In The World status. Allow me to quote Laurence J. Peter..."America is a country that doesn't know where it's going, but is determined to set a speed record getting there." I make this prediction: By 2020, we will have had a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack on mainland US soil, perpetrated by US domestic terrorists. Sad, but I think it's all too likely... And to those who are looting the holds while the ship sinks... :thatsgreat: I think Aristotle was partially right in his theory of governments degrading slowly. From democracy, I don't think we get anarchy, though...I think we get corporatism, for lack of a better term. A capitalistic version of feudalism, if you will.

And when the US government steps in to try and fix things it just becomes an epic failure.

I do think the writer hyped up some of the events in his article, but he does cite his sources. Mentioning all the crap on TV that distracts people from their real problems would have fit well into his article.

Those bailouts where a bit of a joke yes. They should either haven't injected money into some companies or made stricter demands due to the very true risk of all that tax money being thrown into a black hole (ea when those companies still go down, the money will be gone).

Though lack of more rules and regulation (and monitoring/enforcement ofcourse) lay at the source of all this.

The problem with the US government is where they put the rules. More rules were needed on the money when it was given out. In other cases like where the FDA banned flavored cigarettes they rule was not necessary, and this make people mad.

Personally I think no one should have had any money from the government Let them fail. Someone smart with enough money would have come along, bought them up, and made them into something profitable.

So this guy is an idiot. Read the entire article, makes a lot of sense. Of course I already knew all of this so it's no revelation to me. And then he says this.

Take your plight to your representative.

Um. Congrats. You will accomplish nothing. Organization doesn't mean anything without actual force. You will whine to your representatives, they will pat you on the head and tell you about how nice it is to hear your concerns, and then keep on rolling.

If people aren't willing for armed revolt they will remain in their situation forever. I won't be joining anyways though. I'm perfectly happy with my life and consumerism and all of that.
