Not sure if there is a thread, merge it if there is. I think it is wrong to kill someone, even if they are a murderer.:uhm: Discuss.

I don't think anyone should be put to death no matter what they did.......just throw them in jail for 80 years .........

I really don't see the point. I believe a criminal is supposed to learn something from the punishment, and obviously they won't if they die. Neither do i believe in life sentence, they might have learned their lesson but they'll never be able to apply it. The only time someone should spend life imprisoned is if they're incurably insane.

Oh, and a death sentence is more expensive than lifetime, just for that argument (which i'm sure is coming).

I oppose the death penalty, for two reasons. One, it's hard to apologise and set someone free if new evidence comes to light or something; and two, spending the next 50 years in the same small room has to be worse than a quick, clean end.

I'd love to see your information on that. Perhaps Austrian prisons are a bit different than ours...

Yes, I am pro-death penalty. I walk the Texas line. Use it, and speed the process up. While you're at it, expand its use to rapists too.

I don't think expanding it to rapist would be right. Afterall an eye for an eye, and I would say becoming Bubba's bitch in jail would be more eye for an eye then killing them. But yes I do support it for particularly heinous crimes, in particular serial killers.

I assume you mean a source on the Death penalty being more expensive? I read that a few years ago, i don't know if i can find it. If you don't believe me that's fine, i would think it was wrong even if it was cheaper ;)

Yes, that's the one.

I find it hard to believe given how even murderers and terrorists in supermax prisons live. Three hot meals a day, television, exercise equipment. That is for our worst of the worst.

Death row is one of the most secure places to keep a prisoner, and thus it costs alot. And most people spend a crap load of time, something like 25 years average isn't it?

Now if they sped the system up it would be a differnt story.

Well, death row inmates usually have several years before they're executed, and the preparation of the execution itself is probably also pretty expensive.

If anything, i'd say it's not really worth doing only for financial reasons (which i've heard as an argument).
