Machiavelli's Apprentice;3265849So I say that "keeping these people in prison for life is extremely expensive", and then pointed out Florida as a good example of this - since it has a noteable crime rate. And you say "You can't use Florida because it has a high crime rate!" I imagine if I wrote a post discussing oceanography, you would say "You can't use the Pacific as an example! It has too much water!".

Nostra was talking about the drug war & how most of the inmates are 'less-than-qualified-for-execution.'

You went on about how Florida's prisons are largely filled up with violent offenders. Since you used data on elderly inmates, you can't use the data, because it doesn't take account for the people actually responsible for the drugs.

You can't use Florida, because its crime statistics may are not the same for all states, therefore you need to use a larger data size. -- You're just twisting facts to defend your argument.

And if you were paying attention, you would have noticed I already moved on to the subject of the elderly prisoners convicted of violent/sexual crimes.

You went on about how Florida's prisons are largely filled up with violent offenders. Since you used data on elderly inmates, you can't use the data, because it doesn't take account for the people actually responsible for the drugs.

I'm not even talking about the drugs.

So you're suggesting that a death penalty for Florida is bad - simply because another state might not have a lower crime rate? That's like saying you shouldn't have surgery - simply because a completely different patient doesn't need it.

Let me start over, because my argument ceveloped the wrong way, apparently.

1. You were originally saying that we the government is wasting $ on prisoners.

2. Nostra replied by implying if the War on Drugs was the main cause for the high costs of maintaining huge inmate populations.

3. You said that the elderly are just sucking funds from the government by not being executed.

4. I adopted Nostra's argument of the War on Drugs, saying that -- or meaning to say -- the elderly aren't responsible for much of the costs of maintaining prisons, because a huge portion of the inmates are now put in jail for 'minor' offenses (drugs).

5. I also said that you couldn't use that Florida data, because: A) it is too small of a sample size to be valid, & B) the data only takes into account the elderly population.

Other states' statistics might be skewed in a different direction. Therefore, you argument cannot be supported by the data, because another state may not be spending as much money on their prisons as Florida. -- In other words, crime is unevenly spread across the US; one state might have a huge majority of drug related crime & much less violent crimes compared to Florida.

Your argument is based off of Florida, which has a huge elderly population, whereas some other state may have a much lower elderly population.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Fire Legion

Your argument is invalid.

beef flaps;3264818I find it funny when you say it violates their rights.. I mean really, what about the dead person they murdered rights? Where are they?
It don't support the murderers, and think they are wrong. But the law shouldn't imitate them.
beef flaps;3264818The content was bullshit in my opinion.
As for the content was bullshit... you could give constructive advice rather than just saying it's 'bullshit'.
beef flaps;3264818It offends me what you wrote as I have had someone close to me taken away from the scumbags you are trying to protect. I think I trump you there.
I meant no offense, and apologise if I caused any. I am sorry for your loss, and I by no means support the evil murderers. I just think there are more productive punishment methods for them.
Nope, not the same.
Care to elaborate?
Look, no offense but you are all a bunch of kids and have seen hardly anything about the real world yet. your views will most likely change over time.
You may be right, my views could change. But for now, this is what I believe.
As I said, great writing horrible content.

I don't mind that sort of criticism. If you disagree with the content that's fine. It's your opinion I don't want to start a big war here. You have your opinion, and I have mine. We're never, ever going to convince each other the way this debate is running, as we've both become so stubborn and our views so unchanging.. We should tone down the agression- both of us :) .
