The Culture Wars have been going on for a long time. First it was evolution. Atheists hijacking this scientific movement and using it in their futile attempts to "disprove" God. The Christians retaliated with equally futile attempts to disprove evolution. A recent battle ensued over Disney's movie Narnia. Atheist reviewers whined that it was "tainted" with Christianity. Christians retaliated by grossly exaggurating its religious content and messages anmd running lots of silly magazine articles about it. Another battle ensued over the Boy Scouts and their safety policy banning oversexed homosexuals. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=41786 Apparently our government believes making the gays on the extreme left happy is more important than the safety of children. Maybe they should prosecute a little league soccer team for not letting a child molester be the coach. http://www.scoutingforall.org/articles/2006020103.shtml The accusation that the Scouts discriminate against atheists is a load of bs. There are lots of atheists in my troop, many of them in high leadership positions - so don't bother accusing us of discriminating against them. But does this legislation help society any? Of course not. The Scouts are forced to spend precious resources fighting in these idiotic court battles, courts are forced to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars going through the procedures, and workers are forced to give up their paychecks so they can serve on jury duty. The ACLU has become an organization dedicated to causing political agitation - like a department in the KGB, or Gerble's Nazi propaganda machine. But there is one good thing about this culture war - no bloodshed. But it may happen in time. Rome's Social Wars, Mohammed's Empire, the Crusades, the French Revolution, the Communist Revolution... all of these bloodbaths had peaceful beginnings.

There is a difference between homosexuality and pedophilia. This reminds me of the Sout Park episode where they fired Big Gay Al as a "Mountain Scoutmaster" and end up hireing a real macho guy later and it turns out the real macho guy is the pedophile.

morality in society changes all the time. maybe in society's eyes the two are different, but in the eyes of God, they're both a sin of perversion.

What if god is gay and he hasn't come out of the closet yet?

Of course there is a diffrence between homosexuality and pedophilia but look at it from a parents point of view: what would an openly gay man want to be a scout leader for? Not many people would want to leave their 8-10 year old boy alone in a gay mans basement, of course people are going to be skeptical.

Well, how many people would leave any child in any person's basement?

You are right about a culture change brewing MA, a culture of fear is being created ever stronger.

In NZ, a recent issue on political correctness was about airlines shifting men away from unsupervised children. Aparently, this is done all over the world, but here it was the first complaint, of a man (father of 2) who was moved during his flight simply because he was next to a child traveling alone.

What is happening is both sides in your case are demonising each other.

Some men are paedophiles. But not all men are! Some homosexuals are paedophiles. But not all are!

Some priests are paedophiles. But not all are! Some Scout Troop leaders are paedophiles. But not all are!

Branding all as paedophiles, simply becuase you don't like them is wrong in both cases. We need to stop demonising people through our rampant fear.

The first link has little to do with oversexed homosexuals being banned from leadership, the only gay related section i could find was.

At hearings on the subject last week, the anti-Scouts were out in full force. Homosexual and atheist activists complained that Boy Scout literature in the classroom is fundamentally discriminatory

The second link is dead.

First of all, how do scouting groups go about deciding what gay guy is oversexed and what one isnt? I dont think they can make that call.

So let me get this straight - It is acceptable for the Girl Scouts to ban male scout leaders... But it is not acceptable for the Boy Scouts to ban gay scout leaders... Logical.

They are called girl scouts for a reason, you know. The "girl" part of the name should give you a little hint why men aren't allowed. ;)

As for gays being scout leaders, who cares? As long as they don't cross-dress or creep out the kids, it shouldn't be that bad.

Its funny how this "logic" works. All-female organizations are okay, but all straight-male organizations are "evil". And whats really pitiful is that the moment some little boy gets molested, these same lawyers will be out demanding the hides of the scout leaders who let the gay in. Just like the Girl Scouts ban all male scout leaders for safety - the Boy Scouts do the same with gays. Saying one is okay while the other is bad is extremely hypocritical.
