No way I would do it either, I just find it facinating!
I find it depressing.
Your looking at it in the wrong way, these people gave up their lives on their own, not for personal gain.(suicide) But for a cause.
I can tell you it brought international attention to their cause immediately.
No I could not do it. I would find 99 other ways to protest.
I actually saw the spot where the guy did it when I visited Vietnam. I just find that strength of conviction so deep, so powerful. He would end his life, not believing in heaven or such, just in an attempt to make the world better, and in such a painful way. A better man than I...
I pretend to do stuff.

It's effective as hell. I can guarantee it was all over the news. I wouldn't be able to do it though. I'm not afraid of pain, but it's not exactly my thing either, and burning to death must be one of the most painfull experiances possible.
I have other uses for my life.
Wouldn't it be great if all the suicide bombers switched to just blowing up themselves, not others?
Wanna go Double Dutch?

No, I would rather set fire to my enemy (and even that I would try to avoid). Protesting is great but there are other ways to get attention then setting fire to yourself, others or public property. The whole thing with the fathers4justice thin for example got them some really good attention. :)
Anlushac11I would find 99 other ways to protest.
So would I. I could never set myself on fire, especially just to protest some thing.
