Big {Daddy}1. The UN approved the Persian Gulf War.
But not the subsequent entry into Iraq, which they should have.
Big {Daddy}2. The finger should be pointed at Bush Sr for the post war uprising and subsequent suppression, not the UN.
The uprising happened because the Iraqi people thought we would push through into Iraq and finish that son of a bitch once and for all, much to our shame and to that of the UN we did not.
3. The 2nd Gulf War was unnecessary anyway, so how can it be the UN's fault?

If the UN had helped us take him out in the first gulf war then it would not have happened.

NemmerleYou don't negotiate with everyone in the UN. You get a few people together who share your ideals and you set up the organisation, then you allow others to join it.

I concur. Let's create a new organization. We shall call it Oceania. Are there problems with the UN? You bet. There are also problems in the United States, but I think most of his here don't support splitting the country into sections because people in different states don't all agree with each other. Really, as the leading member, the United States could, perhaps, push to reform the UN rather than play this game of, "I don't like Europe because they don't kiss my ass, so I'm leaving to create the Coalition of the Willing!" Now, blaming the aftermath of the 1st Gulf War on the UN is absurd. Daddy Bush was the one who didn't want to go in, mainly because he realized that all the shit that's happening now would occur. It drives me crazy when people cry when the UN doesn't support the dream of the PNAC. I'm waiting to hear how corrupt and useless NATO is pretty soon.

WeirdONE27I concur. Let's create a new organization. We shall call it Oceania.
Let's try to send people to the moon we'll build a rocket. Oh well it blew up, we'll overlook the obvious flaws in the execution of the concept and never try it again because if at first you don't succeed then cry and go home because nothing in life is worth the tiniest bit of effort. What's that over there? Oh I see it's a straw-man argument.
It drives me crazy when people cry when the UN doesn't support the dream of the PNAC.

No-one has. Unless it has escaped your notice America is hardly a shinning beacon of freedom in the world.

I agree that America is a great country, and that for the most part people are quite friendly and helpful. But you have the realize that some of the people from Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries (or wherever) are raised to hate America, and never do a thing to sway their opinion of it, or to find the truth. A lot of people are like that, anywhere you go. They are raised by their parents or peers or even media into hating certain types of people or religions just because they are different from the individuals. And people are of course ignorant enough to go on living their lives hating those people and wishing for their deaths because they are never taught or never told otherwise. I'm not just talking about Middle Eastern or people out of America, because a lot of Americans are the same way.

Well you think America is great, and you're proud of it. Do you know it can be better someplaces? Like Europe, freedom, no wars, why americans are that proud of them, if there are lots of places with even more freedom ie.? It's funny to see someone advertising "The Land Of Free", do they really study other countries in school? smilie.gif

i dont have anyting against americans, i got some family there its just some of there laws, and i dont get the point with death penalty, comon you could lock em up forever but its just that... heres an example: A man kill a antoher man. he gets arrested he sits an waits for a jugdement he gets death penalty he sits in a prison in texas and waits for hes penalty after 5 or more years he gets the neel. and guartanomo(?) it isnt the best thing to have. people sits there without being before a judge wenn they finaly comes out they hate The USA so much that they blow themself up in the middle of crowd. and you dont trust anyone thats why you got an moseberg or a ak47 in you closet. in the start guns where only for keeping the blacks on they place now its for "selfdefends" and i think every body knows that almost every gun inside the big city comes from the villacuarters were withe people that are afraid for getting robed or assualted by a black man keeps his guns.pwned.gif by the way. can someone from the us please tell what danish is?

Danish is a pastry bread, silly! Well, in here, it refers to people originating from the nation of Denmark. Look at a map of Europe, then look at Germany. Then, look north of Germany, for a small peninsula that points north. Ta da! Denmark.

Some people put even prisoners at risk. By killing them, you are not only doing justice to them for their crimes, but keeping them away from other inmates and soceity in general.

The system of tribunals in Guantanamo Bay was set up because of space and time constraints. A full blown trial by jury can take a long time before it is over. There is a long thread on this already, in this here pub. Just read "Guantanamo Bay Abuses" for information. :D

A Mossberg and a AK-47 are two greatly different things. Mossberg makes hunting rifles and shotguns, some of the best in the world. And the AK, well, only a very small fraction of a fraction of gun owners have ever even fired a real AK. The ones avaiable to the public are all single shot automatic (semi-automatic), very large and heavy, and quite inaccurate.

Rik, some schools do. Especially those that offer Advanced Placement courses. Take for example comparative government. You study the British, Russian, Soviet, Chinese, French (next year Iranian) and Mexican governments. Then you compare them to eachother and the US government.
