Not according to this guy:

An Engineer Explains Why Trump’s Wall Is So Implausible This is a fairly old article, but I think you'll find it's very relevant.  Don't forget to check the bottom of the article for a follow-up.

There is a very good reason why Mexico is laughing at this. The truth is that the entire area is littered with tunnels. That is how many Mexicans are getting into America without being noticed. Build as tall of a wall, as thick of a wall, it will not do any good. The Mexicans will simply continue to use the tunnels, and go UNDER the wall, just as they have been for decades.

You're also talking about a country in which the cartels have small armies. They could literally just blow a hole in the wall and send drug mules through. And that's not even mentioning the dozens of tunnels used by immigrants and drug mules either.

Cliff notes version of the tunnel argument as follows.

"Hey, Trump. You ever hear of a fucking spade?"

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

If not, he clearly never looked in the mirror ;)

The wall is a good thing for Trump. It calms down the xenophobics because "finally the government is doing something". It doesn't really mess with the supply of cheap labor and it is an opportunity to sink lots of money into infrastructure projects as governmental subsidy for the construction business. That translates into three sources of votes for his re-election.

If he was serious about the issue he'd contract one of the (foreign) high-tech companies that specialize on border control to set up a system of feneces and cameras with a few command centers behind the lines that have trucks or helicopters to investigate intrusion attempts.

Spicer just announced a few minutes ago at a press briefing on Air Force One, that the wall will be paid with a 20% import tariff on wares from Mexico. That means ultimately, the government avoids paying for it. Instead, the average Joe American is going to be paying for it.

Nobody saw that coming, right?

... Right?

The idea is probably that companies that moved their production for the American market to Mexico will be paying a good part of that as they won't be able to compete with companies producing in Asia or the US. But the assumption is that protectionism doesn't have any drawbacks, which is a pipe-dream.

Sounds plausible, but I doubt Mr. and Mrs. America will think of it like that. Has that been a big issue, anyway? Have companies moved to Mexico?

Yes they have. Because paying Mexicans is better for PROFIT than paying an American an honest wage, health insurance, retirement, and other such socialist things that have no place in America. It takes jobs away from honest and hard-working Americans. That is what makes Capitalism work.

"MrFancypants"The wall is a good thing for Trump. It calms down the xenophobics because "finally the government is doing something".

Meaning that, once again, Trump is simply telling the American people what they WANT to hear. That is how he got elected in the first place.
