This concept has been discussed for a long time among various people(since basically the beginning of Manifest Destiny). Would you support a Union between the United States and Canada? http://www.unitednorthamerica.org

An immediate union liekly wouldn't work well but a gradual alliance building process should be persued, starting simply with more cooperation and (possibly) ending with a United single nation. It won't happen of course as the countries are far too different when it comes to social issues such as healthcare. But in theory it would be good. I've always liked Canada, I think of it as America's brother. Not little brother like some might say, just a brother.

Actually a majority of Americans support Federalized healthcare and most other things the candians already have

I think it would be better to go the other way, and begin to return the US to how it was meant to be. I believe that smaller nations achieve much fairer democracy, while massive nations fail at it.

Yep... Im more for a partition than anything else...

Canada and the United States are relatively new countries that share common languages, religions and people. Indeed, we are a pattern of cultures woven from a common thread.

Yea... right...

The added voices of Canadians could only improve democracy by reinvigorating the republic with new thoughts and concepts.

Canada's voice would merely equivalte the one of a little state of the US.

Canada and particuraly the minorities (like my people) would suffer from such a thing.

You're right. We've got enough French people in the US.

EDIT: Oh, by the way. I just looked at the poll. It seems conservatives are for and liberals are against. Interesting.

Ditto.

The annexion of Canada is out of question.

Why am I talking about annexation? Its because thats what it would basically be, the USA has 10 times more people than us, and has different institutions and a different society than us, guess who's vision of things would prevail in the USNA?

I'd prefer Canada to handle its own problems, and Americans to handle theirs. Like Nostradamouse, I'm concerned about minorities, I don't want my people to be assimilated (do you really thing the USNA would be bilingual like Canada officially is?) and become an insignificant region in some second rank state.

The USNA would need to be trilingual, or it would need to be repressive.

What do the US and Canada have in terms of alliances? I know we are close allies but are we close like U.S. Britian close, or close like EU close? Because I think an EU type systme would be benefical to both countries(maybe even Mexico, but they are too far removed in terms of economy I think) where we share a common currancy and have a close alliance but internal affair remain internal affairs.
