The US will do nothing. We didn't even make an attempt to protect our people in Libya when our military requested permission to send forces in. Our government turned the other way. Russia, had a Nuclear attack sub 200 miles off the coast of our nation's capital two weeks ago and our President's response to news reporters was, "yeah, maybe we should keep a few of those things", which was in reference to our navel ships. Any other president/Administration would have handled these incidents better. Given the trend toward clear threats and our indifference toward them, nothing will come of this incident other than the handful of soundbites from the media. I suspect Iran did what they did just to see how we'd react. They have called our bullsh't and will take the next four years to proceed with their agenda without fear from the has-been of the West.

Remind me why we're letting a country that's shown open hostilities and potential future nuclear capabilities just sit there and bide their time? How long until it goes from taking potshots at unarmed drones, to a full-on nuclear standoff?

The general idea is to throw big bombs at facilities filled with uranium hexaflouride and various other chemicals. I don't think anyone really knows what will happen if we do that. Chances are that it would work like an enormous dirty bomb. If it turns out that this action kills lots of Iranian civilians it is not unthinkable that Iran will retaliate with WMDs against Israel and the US.

Not to mention that the Iranians would only have to sink a few tankers to mess up our fragile economies even more.

You'd give the Iranian leadership and excellent propaganda tool to get their people in line. And you'd annoy Russia and China.

Eh, I'm sure that even if the guys throwing around the hawkish language were in office they would have reacted the same way.

Believe it or not the US isn't some omnipotent invincible power that can do what ever the heck it wants and have the infinite resources to do so or go to war over every single slight it receives.

Perhaps If you are a betting man, you'd take a bet on those against Iran on starting a war and using nuclear weapons then the country that hasn't started any wars.

There are always nuclear submarines off of the coast of one country or another, this is what these submarines are designed to do.

Except for Bush when he had full control to go into Iraq
