If it was meant in a racist way, then it is definitely disgusting, but the issue here is, with a lot of media, if anything bad is done, and involves a minority, whether it be racial groups or social sects, it is generally made out in the worst possible way.

When in reality, it may very well have been that they were overcrowded and couldn't allow anymore access, if so, then there is no problem, they shouldn't make special accommodations for anyone, just because they're a social minority.

I hate this race card bullshit tho. In our society being even remotely considered a racist is the equivelent of stomping on baby heads.

This could have simply been as innocent as a schedule conflict, but the second someone maybe thought they could have remotely heard a word that sounded like black, all hell breaks loose. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will dive in this and get involved somehow as they try to solidify their martin luther king - like image to the black community.

Remember, if you were not horribly sad about micheal jackson dying, you were called a racist.

We need to remove the word racist from our culture. Im tired of hearing it. Everyone calls everyone else a racist.

I was called a racist because I thought it was funny that Obama's presidental limo was made by cadalliac. Like being called a racist would shut me up for fear of not being politically correct.

Agreed for the most part, race is brought into too many arguments/disputes these days, If i say I don't like someone, and they happen to be of another culture, I can bet, many would try label me as a racist, even though that person doesn't appeal to me.

England has a big issue with things like this with the Middle eastern communities, they expect some special treatment, and anything said against them, is either an attack on there religion, or an attack on there race, granted, not all are like this, but there is a small minority who believe we should give them preferential treatment.

To even try to deny this was race based speaks of ignorance of the actual occurance. Many of those 'white kids' you guys are referring to were actually hispanic. The entirety of the group that went (having paid in advance by the way for the privledge) was nearly entirely of ethnic backgrounds. When they showed up, numerous comments were made AND DOCUMENTED referring to the presence of minorities at the pool. When they were turned away it was because of a race issue. If there happened to be 2 or 3 white kids with the group it doesnt detract from the fact that the remaining 98% of the groups members, having been black or hispanic or whatever, caused the entire group to be dismissed. That is racism. clear and cut.

This is especially ridiculous because MJ wasn't black. The black MJ died a long time ago.

I haven't looked into this story anymore than what I've seen in this thread. it seems unlikely that the group was 100-150 people. But if it was they could easily have been denied do to over crowding. They wouldn't want to pick a few at the risk of being view as racist. But as it turns out whenever you think you'll be considered a racist for doing something usually not doing it will make you appear racist as well. Your damned if you do & your damned if you don't.

If you read the story, which it seems many people really haven't, it said that the group totaled "65".

Generally when you set up trips and pay in advance for such things, the establishment is required to hold up on their end of things.

If it was genuinely due to overcrowding they would have told the group ahead of time and not turn them away at the gate, and it doesn't seem to hold up well from their excuse that it was overcrowded and couldn't handel them. Hell, they shouldn't have sold them tickets in the first place and told them the pool couldn't handle that many people.

Instead, they just dragged them along there, and told them there. They refunded their money, but that's not the case here.

I don't really think this is another case of political correctness. Really, these kind of things, especially when they happen to young children, doesn't do good things for their psyche. They'll go ask folk why, and eventually someone'll tell them that white people hate them. This breeds hatred.

The story also says that group wasn't the only group who had their money refunded and were denied access. I'd like to know what the other groups are and if they were composed of minority children or not, the article doesn't say.

Afterburner;4945569The story also says that group wasn't the only group who had their money refunded and were denied access. I'd like to know what the other groups are and if they were composed of minority children or not, the article doesn't say.

I was reading on another article somewhere that some time previously there was a smaller group (25) from a local day camp, and they repeated the same thing but there wasn't as much noise over that as the manager of the group accepted the excuse.

On a side note, I noticed that one of the pool managers chose a poor choice of words in his original account.

"There is a lot of concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion ... the atmosphere of the club."

Which obviously, he quickly retracted the day after as a poor choice of words. He maintains the pool couldn't fit them all and that it was based purely on safety concern.

Yet I ask if that was a concern, why did you let tickets be sold to such a large group and only stopped them when they appeared in town? The yahoo article up there also mentions the kids seemed to feel uncomfortable in the town.

Again, I think really it's hard to brush this off as another case of the race card or political correctness, I just don't think it's a good excuse to brush it off as overcrowding. Any one who goes to a pool and works there long enough knows how much the pool can fit and what times of day are busy.

Creative Steps director Alethea Wright says the camp paid for weekly swim time at the gated club, which is in a village that straddles two townships with overwhelmingly white populations. But she says on June 29 some of the children said they heard people asking what "black kids" were doing there.

So, because, in a place where it's 'overwhelmingly white' people, its suddenly racist to ask why black people are there?

1. You don't know HOW that phrase was said. 2. Just because it refers to them as 'black' does not make it a racist term, it all depends on how it was said. 3. this article is OBVIOUSLY trying to make it out as racist.

And as for the point about 'you know how much a pool can hold' there could be many reasons why they were overcrowded, just because they're of a different ethnic background, suddenly its a huge race issue, yet, I can bet, if those kids had been white, and had been turned away, there would be no news article about it, there would be no 'incident' so why suddenly when it's an ethnic minority does it make such a 'disgrace'?
