In lieu of global events, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists have announced the advancement of the Doomsday Clock(the symbolic mechanism that describes the global state of stability) by a historic thirty seconds. They've based this, in part, on American movements to proliferate nuclear weapons,  as well as events in Pakistan and Israel where nuclear war was threatened over a piece of false information.

This is the closest it has been since 1953, which is when the Soviet Union and United States tested nuclear devices within a short span of each other.

It is a rough indicator, but it is good that they try to warn people. Things have been developing in a bad way. At least during the Cold War both sides had a good idea of what is going on, the scenarios were known and people made sure that every aggression would end in a giant clusterfuck for everyone involved.

This is not the case anymore. Russia has demonstrated that it is willing to wage attack wars and has recently stationed nuclear-capable missiles in Kaliningrad. I.e. they have significantly improved their first-strike capability against Nato. They have also been upgrading their strategic forces over the years whereas everyone else keeps using Cold War technology. A test of a Trident missile launched from a British sub last year failed - the Trident is used on all nuclear subs fielded by Nato.

Then there are the Chinese - who have repeatedely waged wars when that seemed not in their interest in the 20th century and gotten away with it every time.

And we have the new government in the US which is highly unpredictable.

Plus a whole bunch of low-level conflicts around the planet that could flare up. Especially Syria with the involvement of so many players that all hate one another.

Not to mention the fact that North Korea just threatened to drop nuclear missiles on California.

"Lindale"Not to mention the fact that North Korea just threatened to drop nuclear missiles on California.

They are probably jealous that Trump is stealing the show.

It's scary, and I fear my country becoming unstable or waging war without any thought of the consequences.

They already do wage war without though of consequences, or thought of any kind at all. America is the world's vigilante.

The reason they are allowed to get away with it is the simple fact that no one has a large enough military to stop them. Russia is at least one technology generation behind. And not even the entirety of NATO is large enough to stop America.
