This most certainly is old news, but now things have began to unveil, and it has turned out the most odd actions by Swedish police towards a famous torrent sharing site that wrecked havoc on quite unrelated people and businesses was actually initiated by the US government, and carried out by a very dubious minister.

http://viborginternational.blogspot.com/On Thursday the 1st of June some of the smoke clears Apparently the take down has been orchestrated by the MPAA lobbying the US department of foreign affairs to in their turn put pressure on the Swedish department of foreign affairs. This result in those representatives for the Swedish authorities of justice visits the US. Here they are told that there has to be a final solution to the pirate bay problem, they also informs the Swedish delegates how such a solution should be implemented. Upon returning to Sweden the Swedish minister of justice, Thomas Bodström, is informed about the situation and in short he acts in a way that is way outside his sphere of legal influence, ignoring the separation of powers and affectively, through his secretary of the state, ORDERS the police and attorneys office to take action against The Piratebay even though both the police and the attorneys office had already told him that they lacked the legal grounds to launch such an investigation.
Some fun in all the evil:

http://viborginternational.blogspot.com/Soon after this travesty I am released from custody and able to return home only to discover that they have ceased just about all of my electronic equipment. Even my keyboard, my microphone, two TFT flat screens and a multitude of cables. I immediately understand that especially the microphone will yield important information that will help bring me to justice. They had found the ACTUAL "smoking keyboard"!

In the Swedish version the lawyer tells how the police took DNA tests of him and confiscated all his computer-related equipment, including a PS2 control. And he was just their lawyer and supposedly had nothing to do with the site. :vikki:

Perhaps as a reminder of this injustice someone tried to and managed bringing down the website of the Swedish police:
Thursday night the Swedish Police web site went down after a presumed ddos attack. Later the same night the technicians hadn't been able to get the site up again. Some things point to the attack being a revenge for the police raid against Pirate Bay.

Haha the Swedish authoritys are a puppets to the US ones. Sweden has one of the most liberal laws concerning this in the entire world. But now they want to change that, and make it harder for the people to fileshare.

Lets see how long this last. And this thread also for that matter;)

As an American I think this is utter crap.

We are seeing the sway big business has over politics in the US...and apparently overseas.

Dear me, why on earth did they take all that stuff?

I mean, a microphone? Thats a massive cause of filesharing right there....

I suppose that is a logical explanation, they probably thought that the PS2 controller was the weapon Olof Palme was murdered with too.

No - the US officials just said to "come up with a final solution". How you guys did that was your problem. If a neighbor says "stop that infernal racket", and Joe end the racket by shooting everyone in the room, that's Joe's fault, not the neighbor's. ;)

First, I am not Swedish. That said, of course you didn't actually do the raid, but observers were sent over there to be educated on how doing it successfully after pressure from the US government, including the white house.

Now the way your government shamelessly did what your entertainment industry told them to do is very unsympathetic, but the main guilt is still on the minister who started the actual operation, and the authorities that followed his illegal orders.

A final solution. Hmm. Wasn't that what the National Socialists called the holocaust?
