What makes a terrorist? Ok we see ‘them’ on the TV etc. Then you get some guy saying “terrorist that, terrorists this” … but what does make a terrorist? Actually what is a one for that matter!? You can’t say its someone that kills civilians because the US and the C.I.A. has done just as much of that and folks don’t really call them terrorists…in the open anyways. Maybe its someone who kills civilians in times of peace…then the U.S. is one of the worse because when we look at Vietnam, in which that was never classed as a ‘war’, it was a conflict, they murdered many! Bin Laden laid low the twin towers, bad it was, but who’s to say he in his mind isn’t ‘at war’ with the US. He says he is, so whys the US and the rest calling him a Terrorist? He’s a killer yes, I personally don’t like what he’s doing but there’s no logic in calling him a terrorist when looking at what the rest of the civilized world has done or doing! So…why call people (even ones like Laden) terrorists??!

"Terrorist" is a matter of perspective...

Germans saw the French Resistance in WW2 as 'terrorists', in the clonial days of America, the patriots were considered terrorists.

Terrorists are people who, from the governments point of view, are people who rebel against the government in desire for their own intrests to be implemented.

Right now, the US sees the scuicide bombers in Iraq as terrorists. The local iraqi's who dont like us however, sees them as heros and freedom fighters.

Stereotypicially, the 'terrorists' portrayed by the Media are people who are fighting the US ocupation of Iraq.

A terrorist wants something. They have a political, or maybe a religious, agenda. That in itself doesn't make a terrorist.

As with most people who want something, they think it'd be swell if they could get it. In the case of a political issue, a normal person might vote, protest, write to their local MP or the premier of their country, conduct a petition, stuff like that, to try and use the system to get what they want. A terrorist, on the other hand, will scare people until they are given what they want. They'll blow up civilians, maybe politicians, businesses. They take hostages, make threats, and otherwise 'terrorise' people and institutions. I'm not sure if you're a terrorist if you only use those tactics against military targets though. With an entire country essentially held hostage, they expect those in power to be scared into giving them what they want. I'm not sure why they expect this to happen, as I don't remember it happening in the past, but there you go. Sadists with a cause? Maybe... I think the reason a person like Saddam is called a terrorist is that although he already had what he wanted, he kept it by ruling through intimidation.

A terrorist is a person who, Deity forbids, disrupts the lives of the majority through the use of "fear". They know people are naturally arrogant and they use that against them.

I read that by today's FBI standards the Boston Tea Party would be considered terrorists :p Just a quirky fact I once read.

Terrorism: 1. the act of terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy 2. the demoralization and intimidation produced in this way.

Quirky? That makes sense, though...

Terrorists are people whose aim in war is not to disarm their opponent’s ability to wage war. All non terrorist actions have an ultimate aim of removing the enemy’s ability to wage war so that the enemy will fulfil your will. A terrorist conflict does not attempt to remove the ability to wage war but instead attempts to incite fear in the population of their opposition and by doing so remove the will to oppose their will. Terrorists are people who attack peoples’ lives; non terrorists are people who while they may still kill attack the capability rather than the will.

All the above, so, The almighty US, UK etc are terrorist as well! :( Sad but its true I feel. We shouldnt use that word lightly, as we point the finger more are pointing back. Plse look. All the above are what we have done ourselves. How can we call others 'Terrorists"??? :uhm:

I'm not entirely sure when any of our nations have deliberately decided that they should scare people into doing what they want... taxed them, sure, but not scared them...
