In the wake of Skyrim being released my girlfriend was getting annoyed at the amount of time I would spend playing it, she said that it 'changed me' and she didn't like me when I was playing it. I think it was probably to do with the fact that whenever she comes around just happens to be the weekend and we always spend our weekends together. I would try and find ways to keep her occupied so I could play Skyrim, like telling her that she should use this time to study or shower or whatever.. I love having her around but when it comes down to how I would rather spend my Saturday, picknicking on a mountainside or going for a hike doesn't really sound that appealling to me, especially when Skyrim has no much to offer. With the impending release of Mass Effect 3, I think we might run into some of these problems again because I f*%$ing love that game, I am obsessed with it and I even have dreams where I am Commander Shephard, it is like video game crack for me. Somehow I need to make her understand that I need my video game fix on the weekends and it doesn't mean I love her any less or find her boring or whatever. Anyone got an opinion on this?

Am I really this drunk?

Okay. Maybe there are other activities you and your girl could be doing together besides picnicking. Still, it sounds like you're effectively an addict and your girlfriend should dump you so she can find someone better for her.

Wow you're pretty high and mighty for someone who is part of a gaming forum don't think you're in any position to judge buddy. Besides I only get "adicted" when a good game comes out worth getting addicted to, the rest of the time I'm a pretty ordinary awesome guy, I work out, I play rugby, I have a great career. All-in-all I would say I'm a catch despite my love for certain console games. Games like Skyrim and ME provide hours of entertainment and they are cheaper than going out and considering we have a trip to Europe coming up soon, I need to save every cent. So to keep it short and sweet, keep your spiteful criticisms to yourself asshole.

Judgement isn't about being better than others. It's about becoming comfortable enough with yourself to say things as they are, without prejudice for how that reflects on you.

Of course I game a lot, probably more than you. And? How does that render what I said, in any way, untrue? Would you become a worse person if I was Gandhi making that criticism? If Hitler said 'Wait a minute, this is a bit evil.' Would you go - 'Well he's Hitler, what the heck does he know about evil?'

The difference is simply that I don't expect those around me to construct their interactions about my vices. Which is, after all, a pretty selfish thing to do.

If you're that cocksure of yourself, why are you on a gaming forum asking a bunch of teenagers for help with your love life? Hell, if you're that much of a 'catch' surely there's no problem anyway.

I'm just not seeing how being a catch is meant to excuse your actions in this case. Pretty, successful people are not necessarily granted moral blank cheques.

Then just tell her you can't afford to go out at the moment - which would be the truth.

I really don't care about you enough to say anything out of spite. Mild amusement, yes. Spite, not so much.

Be nice to the new one, guys - he probably isn't used to the ways of the Pub just yet.

Besides, this has the potential to be an interesting discussion if you could stop throwing personal remarks around.

If there's one thing I won't tolerate, it's insults like this. You come here and call someone out for giving you criticism on an internet gaming forum and then around and criticize him by that same measure; hypocrisy much?

Second, this particular forum is for discussion on relevant issues, like world politics, economics, and controversial subjects; it is not, I repeat NOT, a help-hotline. If you want us to discuss this, please use the General Discussion forum.

Thirdly, if it's bothering you, why don't you just...I dunno....talk to your girlfriend and come up with some kind of schedule. Maybe pick every other day to be an activity that you and her can do together. You're not obligated to share her love of the outdoors anymore than she is your love of video games. We all have our hobbies. Or better yet, if it's a serious problem, why not talk to a real-life friend, or a professional.

But seriously though, if you didn't want to get dealt "spiteful criticism," maybe you should have done what I just mentioned above.

That's all I have to say. Good day to you, Sir.

Considering the amount of effort you just put into trying to look 'cool' and superior on a gaming forum, my bet is that you don't have a girlfriend.

So spiteful, I would say so. Mildly amused? I think not, personal amusement shouldn't require validation from your peers.

But Good work man, I'm sure you will go far in life.

Anyway back on topic, I found this article that was pretty funny "Video games vs. Girlfriend" I would say that pretty much sums it up for me. It was then removed from my post, because a Super Mod got suspicious as to my motives for popping up on this forum, only posting in this one thread, and antagonizing the local fauna.

I'm planning on playing video games my entire life, so eventually I'm sure we we will be able to work out a compromise...

If not then I think I'm really going to miss her.

If you actually care about your girlfriend you would spend time with her rather than a collection of pixels. I mean, I like video games as much as the next guy, but I'd rather be doing something with friends, especially my girlfriend...
