Excuse me while I rant.

Anyone got a clue as to why people seem to let themselves get drawn in to hatred? How come hate is such an attractive emotion for people? Throughout history, people have destroyed themselves and others needlessly.

Look at religion, for example. Most religions preach love over hate. Using my experiences as a Catholic, I can tell you that THE main point of the Bible is NOT to adhere to a set standard of rules but rather to love your neighbor, especially in the New Testament. How does a religion that preaches love over all use it to kill thousends? Nowadays the Church seems to have come to her senses, but is it too late?

Crusades, Jihad, Inquisition... there is no such thing as a 'holy war', no 'sanctified conflict'. As a species it seems our only desire is to reject our brothers and spread suffering throughout the lands like a plague. If someone believes in peace over conflict, they are seen as weak. In American society a mentality exists that you are either on one polarized side or the other... I don't care about the Presidency and the whales can kiss my ass.

As long as two people exist in this world, it seems they will kill each other. Nobody seems to want to yield, and everyone's making a grab for power. Is the ability to compromise from our species? Was it ever there? Hatred isn't a new issue, it's caused every problem since the beginning.

If mankind is to survive the next millenium, I feel that love will need to overtake hatred. The military is a good institution, at least in America, but instead of making bombs, we as a species should be helping each other out. Instead of attacking people and getting attacked, would it not be better to end the cycle? Addressing the Osama bin Laden issue, whom I feel is a horrible person, would it be better to attack the root of the issues causing terrorism than the criminals themselves? You can't kill a weed by hacking off it's branches. You need to dig it up, pull up it's roots. 9/11 was not our fault, but if we responded by dropping food and money, would our people be dying? Admittedly, the warlords in the region would probably taken our supplies, and the cycle would continue. I'm just confused and ranting. Has hatred really taken such a hold on human society that it cannot be overcome?

What happened to mercy? Just because we're so badass doesn't mean we should invade other nations. Likewise the USA has the power to execute criminals. Just because we can doesn't mean we should, does it? How bad does someone need to be to 'deserve to die'?

I realize I'm getting sidetracked. I just want to know if someone found the love. Seriously, is compassion outdated? What makes pain more attractive than peace?

This world is a mean ruff place and no one is going to hit you harder than life.

Sometimes we have to fight to win. Sometimes we have to take a stand for violence in order for there to be peace.

I would like to live in your fairy tale but the rest of the World wouldnt and Im a survyvor and soon I may find myself fighting some one who wont stop mocking me and some one who is messing up my life.

Was that a serious question? Oh, I don't know I'll take a stab in the dark...Murder someone in cold blood? You "deserve" to die when you take an innocent life from someone. its called justice. Its a simple thing really. You don't want to be killed don't kill anyone else. And to those even thinking that the State is "just as bad" as the murderers all I have to say is... You are a Tool.

Locomotor: Proud Tool.

Concerning the thread: I agree. Hate is one of the defining characteristics of Western culture. So is slavery. Our country, specifically, was founded on hate, racism, genocide, murder, and lies.

You have to remember that there is a lot of love in the world. You don't hear about it on the news, you don't read about it in the history books, but there is. There is love in millions families, mothers, fathers, brothers. Friendships. People voluteering and helping others, someone helping an old lady cross the road. Here's the kindness, here's the compassion, here's the love.
