vivanolaqI was brought up with the idea that one should value the longevity of one's country over the continued existance of oneself. Being willing to sacrifice your life for your country should not be a reason for people to feel sorry for you. I believe it was said best this song. How is being willing to sacrifice oneself for one's country a bad thing?
I was brought up with the idea that one should work to better humanity as a whole, rather than go on vicious killing sprees and commit suicide for the sake of a country which probably won't exist in a matter of centuries.
moofActually, WW2= French surrender is abit of a misconception. I just realized this after a private chat with a fellow forumite and a good friend of mine, Acoustics13. The French Resistance was famous for its valor and ingenuity during WW2. The French government may be easy to beat, but its people are not. Just look at INTERPOL. French police are tough sons of guns, and damned good. Consequently, I rescind any statement I made question French resolve or insinuating cowardice., for I was mistake. This is flipflopping, I know, but it's better to flipflop than to be wrong.
I'm glad someone brought that up.
Sad little boys resorting to country bashing again :o

And they wonder why the rest of the world doesn't worship the ground they walk on...

I was kidding Lightening just to spite you. I know your country has history, I was just making the point that some of us Americans feel a sense of obligation to protect and defend our country. We don't do it because of ignorance, but for the pride.

SpiderGoat And sacrificing yourself for friends, for family, even for honor I can understand. But your country? Your country is a big piece of land, with borders that are there because some guys in the past said: "Here my land end, and yours begins." It's like sacrificing yourself for an inanimated object.

No, YOUR country is a big piece of land with borders that are there for yadayadayada.....

OUR country is the leader of the free world. Our country is the last superpower. Our country is one of the best. I would gladly give my life so that people of this country can have the freedoms that they enjoy every damn day.

So, you wouldn't give your life for your country if you weren't a superpower?

Oh, and cut the 'leader of the free world' propaganda bullshit, it's sickening.

So you don't fight for your country, but for ideals (freedom)?

Sry about opening this again, I have been predesposed latly. When I came back I saw some things that had to be... umm... debated.

Mr. Matt I was brought up with the idea that one should work to better humanity as a whole, rather than go on vicious killing sprees and commit suicide for the sake of a country which probably won't exist in a matter of centuries.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Those seem to be goals that would better humanity.

by Lightning [NL] In the first half of the 17th centuary Holland had the biggest navy in the world.

The Dutch navy was great until forced to prove it in a war. The Dutch Navy was a paper tiger. I like Holland, always have. In all the games I played in my youth I chose to play as the Dutch Navy (I didn't like the Brits don't know why, and the French were French). Yes The Netherlands have a history, a proud history, but that is the history of a propagandist.
