So we all hear about how Iraq fucked up. How public opinion for the American and many Governments around the world is incredibly bad. We all hear about how Iraq will become the next Vietnam, and how we need to pull our troops out. Yet, why don't we ever see this?

Air Force Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt, of the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group at Balad, Irag, cradles a young girl as they both sleep in the hospital. The girl's entire family was executed by insurgents; the killers shot her in the head as well. The girl received treatment at the U.S. military hospital in Balad, but cries and moans often. According to nurses at the facility, Gebhardt is the only one who can calm down the girl, so he has spent the last several nights holding her while they both sleep in a chair.

I'm not convinced that Iraq is going dandy by one story of compassion compared with the hundreds of stories of tragedy. Maybe the media is heartless, but so is a suicide bomb that kills 50 or so people...

The tragedy outweighs the compassion.

It's not dandy, but it's better than it was, chaos is better than evil order.

Don't start the whole "Iraq is crap" debate. That wasn't my intention, don't bring that bull into my thread. I know the situation is still bad, better, yet still horribly bad. This is something I added that I figured might bring a smile to a few peoples faces. It sure did to mine.

Read above. [But agreed.]

Yeah, untill Chaos outscores Saddam, then you'll be out of arguments.

As for this not being in the news, its not really important. This is one kid compared alive to five killed today.

The media reports from issues that people want to hear about: people can mostly blame themselves.

I'm sorry, but I don't really see why the news should report things like this. Is it particularly important when you look at the big picture? It has an emotional impact, sure, but that isn't the same thing.

Iraq is going quite well… for the defense contractors and private security firms. All that chaos is bringing in major money.
