I'm just curious what you guys think happens to your soul after you die. I'm looking for creative thoughts, not "I'll go to heaven", we've established that many people believe in heaven, I want to know what other people percieve to be an afterlife, or if you think the thought of an afterlife is nonsense, etc.

My personal idea is that your soul is reborn into the next baby. When there's a mistake and you don't get another body to enhabit, you roam the world as a concentration of energy, an apparition (ghost). I don't believe in living in a spirit world for eternity. This also means I believe in 'past-lives', and that certain trates are carried with you to the next one, just not memory.

Give me your thoughts.

There is no afterlife. I've been an atheist all my life.

Oh man, these threads always make me sound like a complete nutter.

I think that once we die, we're dead. That's it for us, meaning our bodies and our conscious state, as well as our souls.

I don't think that's the absolute end though.

Immortality is obtained through your living memory. That's the afterlife. You continue living through others. That's why leaving an impact is so important in life, it's the only thing that's left of you when you're "gone." I'm not referring to obtaining a celebrity status or changing the world or anything. I'm talking about changing people, whether for the good or bad doesn't matter. Just making yourself remembered.

Depending on the legacy you leave, you either die with your death, you die with the death of your relatives/friends, or you live forever.

I think there is a human "soul" which encompasses our beliefs and all of that, and after we die this "soul" is let free to wander the universe free of it's physical constraints and even can shift through universes and dimensions.

What do you suppose the soul is then ? That is my 1st question. Or if we even have a soul. My theory is far too long to state here right now. However I think you should ask yourself scientifically not if we have a soul but if laws of science suggest that our bodies contain something that relates to the concept of a soul. Dont use words like soul, or after life...ghosts if you ever do. Think about it so that it goes together and makes sense. What science suggests "a soul" or some sort of transferrable energy that carries our morales thoughts memmories and all that ?

There's a part of me that screams "there is not afterlife" and another part which believes that the soul is recycled and passed on to another life form.

That's basically what I was getting at if you read the whole thing again. However, memories aren't carried on, if they were you would remember your past life and none of this would be a mystery. When I say soul I don't mean your "spirit" or anything supersticious like that, more of an essence of yourself. It could be compared to your morales for example; when you do something like shop-lift, the average person would feel something in their head telling them that what they'r doing is wrong. Morales aren't pheasable, but they are there, in your head. And I believe that thought is carried on into other forms of life through whichever means you want to think.

That's a very traditional Anglo-Saxon view. I can agree with that.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no "soul", so it's difficult to say what happens to it after you die. Once you die, there is nothing.

However, it is important for me that humanity as a whole survives. I don't believe in reincarnation, so I guess it's more the anglo-saxon view that Ryette posted.

The mortal mind isn't allowed to comprehend the immortal being that is released from it's mortal shell upon death. Rules are rules. If everyone knew absolutely that there was immortality waiting for them upon mortal death. Everyone would kill themselves.
