I recently bought the "Sims Superstar" to add on to my older "The Sims" and "The Sims House Party" Expansion Pack. I had previously uninstalled both The Sims and House party so I reinstalled both and they seem to work fine, but when I install "Superstar" I get all these horizontal lines on my screen. I'm stumped  What could be the problem? I'm attaching a picture...I think? :uhm:

I have the same problem when i open the sims using a 800 x 600 resolution. i found that if i use 1024 x 768 it runs without the lines but the game performance is slower.

Thanks dawgcouch. I found that if I changed to window mode as per the instructions the lines disappear. I just see some little lines over the pictures of friends?? Don't know why? I will try the different resolution though. I don't really like 800 by 600. Thanks for your reply. I am now trying to figure out how to become a star with nooooo money. If I get an agent I can't get a job and vise versa. I need money though so I took a job. I didn't realize you still have to build up your skills and I can't do that without the mirror, bookcase...etc. and of course I need to eat. I still have no money for a fridge or stove and I'm really getting sick of pizza. I hate using the cheats though...stubborn I guess. I only have The Sims and House Party installed along with Superstar. My daughter has my Livin Large and Hot Date so I haven't installed them yet (couldn't wait) so I guess I'll have to start over when I do get them. Just as well I need the practice. Haven't played in awhile. Thanks again. :)

yeah i found that it helps to have the sim u want to be a superstar live with ppL... that way they can live off wat the others make. also it helps to build up a lot of creativity and charisma before u even start the superstar career track. that way when u go to sing or watever in studiotown ppL will like wat they see and u'll get stars a little easier. also how do u change it to window mode? i'd like to try that myself.

I just got Livin Large and Hot Date so now I have to uninstall and reinstall them all again :uhoh: I'll see if I can attach this for you :uhm: ea_header_logo.gifclearpixel.gifwhitepaper_title_left.jpgwhitepaper_title_right.jpgwizard_top_left.gifclearpixel.gifwizard_top_right.gifclearpixel.gifTroubleshooting for The Sims and its expansions, especially issues concerning crashes, freezing or lockups, and graphic display issues, can be done primarily through the use of switches. Switches change the way the game starts and runs. They may resolve the issue, or allow you to pinpoint the cause of the issue. Switches are appended to a shortcut for the game and can be added and removed in that shortcut without worry of affecting the game files or the computer. Follow these instructions to utilize the troubleshooting switches: Create a shortcut for the game.(If you already have a shortcut for the game on your desktop, you may skip this step.)

 1. Right-click on your desktop and choose New and then Shortcut.
 2. When the Create Shortcut window appears choose Browse.
 3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe.
 4. Note: The icon for the Sims.exe looks like a blue stop-sign with lighter-blue people inside.
Click on the Sims.exe icon and choose OK. Note: This should bring you back to the previous Create Shortcut window. The Location box should say ‘"C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe"’. Click Next. Type in The Sims Shortcut as the name of the shortcut. Click Finish. You should now see a Sims icon with the name you chose on the desktop. This is the icon that we will be adding switches to.

Understanding and Applying the troubleshooting switches. The troubleshooting switches are as follows:

 • -w

This switch runs the game in a window. The window has a resolution of 800x600. If your desktop resolution is also 800x600 the game will still appear to be full screen. Use this switch if you experience crashing, freezing, or graphic corruption. -nosound This switch runs the game without sound. Use this switch if you experience crashing or freezing. To add a switch to your shortcut, do the following:

 • Right-click on your Sims shortcut and choose Properties.
 • This should default you to the Shortcut tab.
Press the Right Arrow on your keyboard. This will unselect the Target field, and put a blinking cursor at the end of the box outside of the quotations. Press the Space Bar once. Type the switch you wish to add. Example : If you want to add the –w switch, the line would look like this: "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe" –w Click the Apply button, and then Close. Double-click on the shortcut you just modified to run the game using the switch.

Interpreting the results.

 • If the –w switch works, this means that the issue(s) you are experiencing is caused by a compatibility issue with your video card. Review this checklist to troubleshoot the root cause:
 • Verify that your video card meets the hardware requirements listed on the bottom of the game box, and that it has the most recent drivers installed.
If you are unsure on how to compare the minimum requirements to your computer, or where to get the newest drivers, this driver white page will show you how. If you meet the minimum requirements and have the most recent drivers, you can try disabling AGP Texture Acceleration. Click on the Start button. Click on Run. Type dxdiag in the available text field, and press OK. Click on the Display tab of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Click on the Disable button next to AGP Texture Acceleration. Click on the X in the top right corner to close the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Warning : This can affect the performance of other games. If you are still unable to get the game working properly without, you can continue playing the game with the switch with no side-effects. If the –nosound switch works, this means that the issue(s) you are experiencing is caused by a compatibility issue with your sound card or playback device. Review this checklist to troubleshoot the root cause: Verify that your sound card meets the hardware requirements listed on the bottom of the game box, and that it has the most recent drivers installed. If you are unsure on how to compare the minimum requirements to your computer, or where to get the newest drivers, this white page will show you how. If you meet the minimum requirements and have the most recent drivers, you should try lowering your computers sound acceleration to basic. For step by step instructions on lowering your sound acceleration, review this white page.Hope I did it right  If I can do it anybody can  clearpixel.gifwizard_bottom_left.gifclearpixel.gifwizard_bottom_right.gif

Well I just uninstalled everything and reinstalled with Livin Large and Hot Date. Took me an hour! I tried the resolution you suggested and guess what? No lines! Yay! I think it runs a little slower but not bad. It's a lot clearer too. I forgot I use to play with the 800 x 600 resolution because I preferred it larger. That's why it never occured to me to try the 1024 x 768 resolution. Who would think that would get rid of the lines?...strange. We must have similar systems because I've never heard of this problem before. If it starts to run too slow, I'll try the windows mode again. thanks for your help.
