Can anyone please help me? I had to uninstall the sims to make room for sims 2, which I ended up removing because I didn't like it. I backed up all the user data from the neighborhoods I wanted to save, and I was able to restore the houses, but I am having trouble restoring the characters. So far, when I replace them It just deletes all the characters already in the neighborhood. Does anybody know how to fix this? I would be extremely grateful if you helped.

Well, when you save your game files, the best way to save the characters is by saving their .FAM files, and re-importing them into the new game through the in-game 'import' function. As long as you've already re-installed all the objects, skins, floors and walls their lot used in the last game, they and their house will show up without any problems. You can't re-import any ghosts the lot had, though. What method did you save the sims character files, what files did you save for them? Did you save the files in the 'userdata#/characters' folders?

I just restored everything else, the only problem is that the characters won't go in. I saved also saved a backup copy of the characters.

The families .FAM files should be in the 'export' folder in the userdata folder. Put the .FAM files into the 'import' folder in the new userdata folder in the new game's folders. Then crank-up your game, and when you're at the neighborhood screen, click on the 'import' button at the top of the screen. A pop-up will come up showing the old families and their houses, you'll have an option to overwrite the new lots in the game with the old families and their houses. What you've done, it sounds like, is overwrite the new lots with the old houses. You can do it that way if you just want an empty house. If you use the .FAM files, the family and the house will show up.

Thanks for all the help. Only problem is that the import button won't appear. Any suggestions?

The import button should be at the top of the screen when you're in the neighborhood view, that is, when you see the whole neighborhood, all the houses. It's in the same place where you go to the 'make a new family' section. You're not seeing this there?
