Hi! I've purchased the Sims 2 yesterday, the cd-rom version. After installing the game, when I tried to play it, the splash screen appears and the cd-rom shows activity. After 30-45 seconds roughly, the games displays the following message: "Cannot Locate CD-Rom. CD/DVD Emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD Emulation software and re-start the game." The message appears easy to understand, but the problem is I'm not aware I'm running such software on my computer. I've closed all tasks I'm familiar with, including Anti-Virus. I have a Pentium III 600 MHz with about 500 Mb RAM. My graphics card is a Radeon 9200 128 Mb. I'm trying to run the game on WinXP. Since I have a dual-boot system (with W98 and XP), I've also installed the game on W98 and it runs perfectly. Can anyone, please help undestand why the game doesn't work on for me on XP? I'd prefer to play it there. Thanx in advance Octávio

This can be caused by Alcohol, Nero, Clone CD, Deamon tools or any other similar programs. Tell me what you have running and I will be able to better help you ;)

Ok, ive being looking at nero & I cant really see how this would cause this error, unless you have nero image drive. I think juust disabling clone cd would fix this

Now heres how to do it, look on your task bar at the bottom right of your screen. Find the CloneCD tray icon. Right Click on the icon and make sure Hide CD-R media is un-ticked. Restart your PC, just to be sure. Then try The Sims 2 again ;)

id say take the game back 2 where you got it from, or try a no-cd crack :)

Klindshill:

In my desperation to make the game work I also encountered that message, but in only appeared when I placed the CDs 2, 3 or 4 on cd CD-Drive. Are you sure you have CD 1 on the cd-rom drive? If you turn on your computer and after windows finishes starting-up you place cd 1 on the drive, the autorun should start the game automatically and the splash screen should appear... I know it's a fairly simple solution but it is as far as my knowledge goes.
