Ok. So I solved that directx problem by popping the latest XP SP2 integrated CD in and did an upgrade. Now all my other games that require Directx 9.0c works. Pirates! work! YAY! The Sims 2 Still doesn't. Bummer. I cleaned the registry of the sims, restarted the puter, reinstalled the game, and when I tried to start the game (with CD1 in the drive), it tries to load the game, then it gives me a pop-up error. Except it's a completely empty error - just a box with a red x and circle, with the little x to close the box. It doesn't tell me what's wrong at all... Any ideas?

Are you using a copied version of the Sims 2? You mentioned Pirates Working...

I just got the Sims 2 CD and I'm getting the same empty error message. Everything installed correctly and I have all the system requirements but when I put the CD in and go to play it gives me that error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem cause i uninstalled sims 2 then i reinstalled it. i had 2 short cuts to open sims in different folders on the start menu. when i pressed the new one it had the dodgey box (with the x). but the one from the first installation worked when i pressed it! yay:) ! so try to re install it if that doesnt work try to open sims2 from the c: drive like go on program files then ea games then sims or tsbin either should work!!! If It Dont work screw it yay

I've got excatly the same problem, and I've tried reinstalling it and all that but it's uninstalled, there's no folders, exe files or anything whatsoever and I get that blank error box everytime I click on setup, autorun or even uninstall.I've tried adding it from the Cd and that doesn't help either.EA Games suggests loadin the cd files to the computer,no luck,or reinstalling,no help either. Please,I'm desperate!:(

You probably need to stop all background activities.

Download "end it all".

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,95493,00.asp

Install it. (Click OK to all warnings.) Go up to the icon that has “kill all” on it and click it.

If you really know what you are doing you could probably do it manually.
