I have The Sims Mega Deluxe and am running Windows XP. The installation seems to go smoothly with no problems. The Sims Creator works just fine, but when I try to play Sims it comes up with a big box saying The Sims Mega Deluxe. It is open for a few seconds and then it closes and nothing else happens. I’ve tried starting it from Auto Run, Start Program Files, opening the folder and running it from there, but nothing works. I have Norton disabled and all other programs shut down (and have had since before the installation). Everything else on my computer is running properly. I did a scan with Norton before the installation, and found no viruses. I also ran Ad-Aware and Spybot several times each to get rid of any spyware.

You might not have enough memory for the game to play. That or you're using the wrong disk to play the game with.

I have 256 MB RAM (the box says it requires 128 MB or more). And I am using the Sims Deluxe Edition Disk 1 (if I try using any of the other disks in the set I get an error message - Cannot locate the CD-ROM. Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application).

What's the name of your CD drive? That tends to cause problems, as the drive you use isn't always the same one that accidentally gets listed as the game's data location.

Other then that, you might try a reinstall, as fun as the game is it causes a truck load of problems from time to time.

I had this problem with one of the Sim's expansion in the past. If I am not mistaken, it was a rundll error. Before you try to install it, open your task manager (Hit at the same time- Control, Alt, Delete) then using the 'processes' tab, find rundll and end process. Now try to install the game. It should work. Again I am not 100% if it was a rundll error, but ending that process will not do any damage either way. Let me know if that helped. I will also try to double check and make sure that is what it was.

In your case, if it is installed and just will not start, see if the rundll.exe is in the task manager and try to end the process. Also try this. This program is called 'End it all', It allows you to easily shut down all non essential programs running on your computer to facilitate software installation, burning CDs or running your ScanDisk & Defrag programs without interruption. You should download the file and then reboot your machine before you install EndItAll.
