Hi, to make a loooong story short, while installing the sims mega deluxe or the deluxe edition, at 95% or less the game crashes and it says "component transfer error". What does that mean? I installed the game on other computers and it installed perfectly without any problems. The game was installed before and i played for months before it started crashing at the loading screen when you start running the game, so i thought maybe that i downloaded a bad file or something and i deleted everything and uninstalled the game. But now i can't even install it because of " component transfer error" what ever that means..if only maxis could write something more simple like perhaps.."your computer sucks maxis will pay you a brand new one" :lookaround: anyways can someone please help me!! Thanks Babye

could be a bad disk or something... sounds like the installation couldn't read from the disk and therefore couldn't "transfer" some of the "components".

just a guess.

Might be the CD drive then. You might want to defrag/scan disk your computer before trying another install, it might help. EDIT : http://thesims.ea.com/us/support/superstartechfaq.html It's number 7. Might not be for the right game expansion but it should work for everything, they always tend to.

I was having that same problem and I figured out that it was the data2.cab file that was the problem. Set up a new folder on your desktop and copy your discs to that folder. Make sure that when you get to disc 2 copy data files 3 and 4 to the setup folder in your new folder. If it tells you it cannot copy a certain file then you've found the problem. Right now I'm trying to find a download of data2 so I can finish installing.

yeah, i'm having that exact same problem. it won't let me copy that data2 thing... and my parents aren't being helpful. at all. so i've been researching this issue nonstop for four days; and i'm ready to give up, if my boredom wasn't so strong, that is. help me! please, please. WAS there a download for that data2 thingy? i need it. my disk isn't scratched- at all, and it's severely depressing that this isn't working. :( so someone, anyone, help?

Copy down any error messages you're getting, and do a search for them here: EA Customer Support

Try this, browse your computer to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield". Rename the "InstallShield" folder to something like "InstallShield_old". Try to install the game again.

I think this problem could also be caused by a damaged disc (as others have said). The speed of your CD drive may also be a factor.
