Can anyone help plz I am having trouble with 'barcoder' players who use a name in AVP2 such as 'IIIIIIIIII' which in the games font is a mix of I's and L's so I cant boot them and they always cause trouble. I have taken so much S**T from this guy and I've had it. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Solidus Snake

Hehehe. Funnily enough, I mentioned this particular problem in the "stealing name" thread. It's a pain isn't it? When I used to admin for my old clan server "Barcoders" caused me no-end of hassles. Feel's similar to this.....:micro: ....doesn't it? My only useful advice (since, as u know, the chances of actually typing in the right sequence is almost impossible) is to run your server "dedicated" (the same as "Stand-Alone Server"). U can run the server dedicated by either selecting it from the very first menu or from within the "Host Game" menu (just switch dedicated to yes). What this basically does is... instead of putting you in the game directly, it starts the server but leaves you out and gives you a text control screen. This shows things like the maps on the rotation and the players in the game. Now here's the handy part... from this screen u can simply select a player and click the "boot player" button....hahahah no hassling about typing and names....just boot what u select....ideal. The draw back is... to actually play on your server, you gotta join it as a client which means starting a new version of the game and selecting your server from the list as you normally would to join other server's. This can be a hassle though if ur system and connection aren't really up to scratch...I wouldn't recommend trying it if you're using a 56k modem or ur processor and RAM are a bit low on spec. I can't really tell on this though cos I've only ever tried running my server like this since I got my system upgraded and got hooked up to ADSL. Hope you found anything there that helps. If you didn't, I guess you're gonna be stuck with the moron!! :furious:

BTW, If you do decide to run your server as dedicated, there's a couple of MOD's out there you might find useful. One's an anti-spawn kill MOD (:D )and the other's useful for adding 'auto-messages'. This makes the server warn players of incoming joiners who are gonna cause a lag spike - everyone knows how annoying that can be. It also allows you to add your own auto-messages that appear after a selected time interval. I can't remember who produced these MOD's (god bless 'em), but if u want them I'm sure I can pass u on copies. :)

.solidusThank you that helps v much.

there is a much easier and faster way to boot people with those annoying names. you can edit your ariel fonts to make Il appear as I L. or you can simply take the ariel font and remove it from the fonts folder thus forcing avp to use a different font that will correctly display the names of players using barcode names.

the only problem that you will still have is the people who are smart enough to put like 8 spaces a . and like 3 spaces , )those i cant help with spaces piss me off.

oh and also you can use game spy to check players in a game it doesnt use ariel font to view player list so u can write their name down and boot that way but thats obviously the hardest of the 3 i mentioned.

Yeah some good points there. Hadn't thought about altering the font. :uhoh: But, yeah...like u say....doesn't help with sequences of spaces which will cause the same problem. If u wanna eliminate all possibilities of those kinda players, u really gotta go dedicated.

yah but not everyone can do that. some people rent t3 servers. i myself am in a clan that has a rented t3. server so i just get used to booting barcode players. after a while you can tell how many spaces are in a name

the most annoying players are the ones who change their name every few minutes with a messed up number of spaces.

Hehe, that's exactly my point. The hardcore breed of asshole out there will do anything to piss u off. Still, I know what u mean about running dedicated, it's a drain on ur system especially if u wanna play too (most people obviously will). That's why I said in my advice.... don't bother unless u got the system for it. :type: But the majority of casual server host's out there (of which I assume solidus is one) will now have systems that can cope with running a dedicated server while playing in it at the same time. I imagine renting a server would be too much hassle (for a casual host) and is mostly employed by websites and clans...a group of organised players rather than someone who just wants to host a few rounds. :p So yeah...I go back to my original point...try running it dedicated if u think u've got the spec (no harm in trying anyway), and if not... ur looking at having to keep on cracking those Barcodes and space-sequences (*X-LR*Darharhar's advice on changing the font will help u no end with this). :deal:
