I was clearing out my emails and I discovered that I'd saved the response I received from the Advertising Standards Authority, which they sent to me when I drunkenly complained about a 2010 BMW X5 advert which depicted the car driving on the moon. I thought I'd share it.

Thank you for your recent complaint about a TV ad by BMW (UK) Ltd.  I understand you feel it is misleading as you would not be able to drive a car on the moon.   We have assessed the ad and your complaint but consider that there are no grounds for ASA intervention on this occasion.  The ad presents various scenarios in which the car might be used and we do not consider that the car driving on the moon is likely to be seen as a realistic way in which the general public might use it.  Our Code does allow advertisers to present clear exaggerations in ads and we do not consider that this is likely to mislead viewers to their detriment.   I realise you will be disappointed with this outcome, but thank you for taking the time to contact us with your views.

I was appalled by this decision.

You should have immediately filed another complaint about why it can't drive on the moon yet.

For fuck's sake. But in a really good way.

You know when you close your eyes, bury your face in your desk and do that hysterical laugh that's often mistaken for the sobbing of the distressed? That's the one.

This is basically Mr. Matt's life in a nutshell...

Well, you know BMW is owned by Volkswagen. You cannot drive one without singing "Sieg heil! Sieg heil!"

No it isn't. They supported the Nazi war machine all the same though.
