A man has added me on LinkedIn, but addressed me as a user name I've used in a couple of video games and forums in the invite. Turns out he's the admin on a cycling forum I lurk on. I have an account, but pretty much never use it. Last login was September 2010.

My email there isn't public, and it's to a very old email I don't use, and the name on that email is "Luke Skywalker".

My linkedin email is my university address. The two have never come in contact with each other.

I have no idea how he made the connection between that username and my legal name. How the fucking BALLS has he done this!? And why??? "Only add people you know" and all that.

All I can think of is this

EDIT: I tried stalking myself, but couldn't. There just isn't anything out there linking those two email addresses that I can find. He must have done some fucking serious digging. Even if you had the passwords to the involved accounts, there wouldn't be anything linking them. This is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be murdered.

EDIT 2: I searched my forum posts for mentions of where I live. Only came up with "California", which I already had as my location, and "university", of which we have many. Only PM'd one guy, never gave him my address. Tried Google too. I give up.

Admin by night, NSA employee by day.

The obvious answer to your problem.

It's an older code, sir, but it checks out.

Ok, first, I laughed at your first edit. However, I will admit that considering the number of crazies per capita in any given state, it is entirely possible. Also, another thing to consider is the fact that a friend of mine had to watch her back for a while because her husband, who posted frequently on one forum, was essentially being stalked by most of the people on the forum due to their ability to gain access to that sort of information. Just because you can't find your information in a manner you think it could be found, doesn't mean there isn't someone with greater skill that can get access to that information. That said, you did everything humanly possible to insure your information was safe. I supposed it's possible that this individual gained access to your information because he works for the LinkedIn website. Just be careful, man.

He apparently lives in Florida, but yeah I should probably avoid dark alley ways. It would have taken quite a lot of effort to find that. He certainly didn't do it by accident.

Maybe he tracked your IP? That's really creepy though...
