I was wondering (new at modding this game btw) if it would be possible to change essentially everything about a civilization to make it one that I want. I wanted to do a Japanese civilization, and figured I'd make the Egyptians or the Greek into them by changing all of the parameters and using the units I've been modelling. Would that be possible? Or far too complex for one person to undertake maybe... ? I've researched the gods and mythology quite a bit for the Japanese and I'd love to make a modded civilization, but I'd need some help... I read the modding tutorial on this site but it didn't seem quite in depth enough. Beyond if its even possible I wondered how exactly I'd go about changing the animations (I use all kinds of freeware 3d modelling programs but I'm not sure which would be easiest to use for this game [from Gmax to Anim8or, to Blender, and also Cinema 4D]), how I'd change things like ways of gaining favor and that sort of thing. Links to useful tutorials or direct help would be much appreciated. Or you can tell me now if it'd take too long so I don't waste my time =P Thanks!
it'd take an extremely long amount of time. no, my modding guide is not very in-depth, but soon i'll instruct everyone on modeling and make it lots more in-depth. it would take a very long time, and it's a project for a design team. if you're interested, i suggest you check out either my modding / mapping clan: or Kings of Mythology, which is trying a full conversion into AoK. Both groups i am in (i lead the clan at the first link tho ;)) and if you need any help or want a walkthrough with modding, here's my contact info: MSN: CoolSk8r32@comcast.net AIM: AOM CoolSk8r32
Wow! Coolsk8r has posted! Neways. We're not sure on how to mod a civilization. Aom is considerably easier to mod than other games but at the same time it is more indepth. To create a whole civilization, youll need a whole design team.
i'm grounded from now on until a long time from now, so i wont be posting much except on the weekends once my hw is done. otherwise if i'm caught posting i'm in deep boiling oil. sorry.
Yeh I figured as much... but damnit, I just wanna see samurai runnin around under Buddha's name in AoM =P. It'd be great to join either group, but I'm afraid my modding skills would be lacking, though I can learn. I'm new to modding, I just like modeling and figured it'd be awesome to use the models I make in games. That's what I really want help in, making entirely unique models, not reskinning existing characters.
It'd be so cool to actually work with an indie design team and make a Japanese mod! *dreams*
Heh, it could be done, but about the changing the ways you gain favor (and other stuff).....it's gonna take a lot of time, aswell as changing /every/ unit of a civ...
Well yeah I kinda doubt I would do it since I'm fairly new to modding, and by the time I'd finish it another game thats easier to mod will prolly be out. I had thought to use the Egyptians monuments though, simply replacing them with Monk Temples where the gods would be constantly worshiped.
I suppose I'd really just wanna keep the general structure of the Egyptian or Greek civilization but switch out the graphics with a Japanese theme. I'm no coder and I doubt I'll ever delve too deep into that pool, I just like the art side of video games and thought it'd be a fun project. If anyone agree's it'd be cool to work with a few people to do so, but the general consensus is that it'd be a long and arduous path just to change the appearance of something we've all already played. So meh
Well, it'd be really tough creating a whole new branch to the techtree, but it could be done. The favor problems wouldn't take too long to change, that's just a small tag stuck into proto on whatever unit does the generating. Modelling would be the primary concern, since there's nothing on AoM that closely resembles asian armor or weapon types. I'd help if you wanted, though I don't have too much time on my hands to work with, since, like CoolSk8er I've got tons of homework and unless I get a B-average I don't get my license this summer...Still, it'd be fun, and I need a change of pace from the mod I'm working on.
Well, I have been making my own samurai models for awhile, tho nothing as low poly as AoM would require. I like low poly modelling though, its pratically more challenging, at least in some aspects. From the tutorial on this site where the guy made a new plant for the map editor it doesn't seem too hard... only thing is im sure its much more laborious editing an actual animating character. Bones and animation are prolly my biggest concern... I'd need tons of help with doing such things...
I'll just start slow though, edit some existing models, maybe ask around about how to use your own 3D model in the game. Thanks for offering to help!
yeah i started with that. see me on IM or MSN and i'll help you with 3d models. btw samurai is MY idea buddy!
