it's still happening, that god damn blasted General protection error It doesn't matter what I do, I've tried changing my graphics card, cleaning out my computer tower, deleting all the files on my computer and reloading everything right down to the operating system and still this General Protection Error is still coming up whether I play single player, online multiplayer, onslaught, invasion, mutators or not, I just don't know how to fix this problem, please help me, it happens with every other game too, not just UT 2004 however other games act differently, Battlefield 2 and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion just crash or shut down and go to the desktop without an error message, but other games like Deus Ex and UT 2004 give me the General Protection Error. My e-mail Address is Independent_Artist@msn.com and I am desperate to solve this problem! I'm not sure if it might be that I have an outdated sound card, perhaps my hard drive has some sort of problem, or maybe it's the disc drive? This is soooo frustrating  :uhoh: :bawl:  :( AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

x.x hopless and desperate for help, Kevin

if you haven't thrown your pc out of the window yet, post your ut2004 logfile here after the crash (the software one ;) ). it can be found in your ut2004\system folder named ut2004.txt (notepad file). if it's too big, its sufficient to post the last 50-100 lines of the log file. due to the fact that it happens with more games, I doubt there's much we can do for it, as the problem is most likely caused by your computer(hardware, drivers,..) and not the game. try installing the latest ut2004 patch (3369). if your computer is overheating try playing ut2004 with the lowest settings(settings->display) and a low resolution and refresh rate (eg 800x600 75hz), to see if you're able to play for a longer time then normal (although i doubt it's overheating with only 2.0ghz). when ingame in ut2004 use the 'stat fps' console command to see your frames per second and 'stat all' to see alot more details. (stat none, to remove them) try installing the latest drivers of your vga. and the latest directx 9.0c from the microsoft homepage. you can also use several 3rd party test and diagnostic programs/tools to measure the temperature of your cpu, graphics card etc... to see if it gets too hot when playing games and to test your ram sticks and harddisk for failures (motherboard monitor, memtest, diskcheckup etc..). if it's your vga you need to unplug it (if warranty has expired of course, and after uninstalling its drivers) and plug another one (a friend's one) to test it.there are many other tools and websites that discuss these issues in detail, it's up to you to find them (google). So far just post your ut2004 log file, to see if we can find something suspicious :Puzzled: .

After what seemed eons of that blasted General Protection fault I've solved the problem. The RAM! The types of RAM between the 1GB I just got last Christmas and the old 512MB I had were conflicting with eachother creating a "bad memory" situation. Since the types of RAM memory for each stick of RAM were different they conflicted with one another. So I had to remove my old 512MB and get the 1GB on it's own.

Ah, good then. 1GB is still more than enough to run Unreal ^_^
