I seem to be having huge load times when I want to load a map, about 3-5 minutes, My PC Specs are:

Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB AMD Atlon 2400XP+ 512MB DDR RAM 40GB HD [x2] 7,200rpm, 2MB Cache Soltek SL-75FRV Can anyone help me reduce load times?

If ur runnin 2k4, you probably have preload all skins turned on - turn it off and it should be fine.

Do a good old fashioned defrag on your hard drive, that may help some load time. And get more RAM, RAM is key.

Nah, get a tweakguide from www.tweaktown.com (not sure if it's .com or something else), follow it and tweak your .ini files thoroughly, you should have about reduced loading time after following the guide. (I myself have around 3-5 sec loading times on every mapchange etc.) It'll also help to improve your FPS, in order to improve it, I could recommend turning decals "off" since it's really useless (I've got it off even though I have x800 XT & 1024 PC4200 ram o_O), since I don't need it. Decals is like ammunition lying on the ground etc.

Hmm... i think i know why, the HD it's on is only 5400rpm...... Btw, Showdown, the only guide on there is for UT2k3, I'm on 2k4, will it make any difference?

Maybe I gave you the wrong address, here's the URL for the full guide :)

http://www.tweakguides.com/UT2004_1.html

btw, the HDD speed is probably to blame for 80% of the slow loading times. 5400RPM really doesn't do it these days :/

I myself have 7200RPM which is fair enough, make sure if you buy a new HDD you get 133ATA-Serial too :)

now that I mention it, it could be your ATA cables

I know UT2004 is a "ram hog", but if you just turn off ALL the precache player skins etc, you won't even notice it (although to turn off everything you need to do it manually through the .ini files), since I survived quite a bit with 512 PC2700 (<- OMG) DDR Ram, but now I've got 1024 PC4200 :D
