1) Retrieving the cd-key So u lost the game manual with the cd-key on it... There are a non-legit programs to retrieve lost cd-keys from the game. So u still have v1.18. For the cd-key grabber: http://www.securegamers.com/shadowfrench/test/W3XCDKeyGrabber11800.exe Of course u can get another key from Blizzard the Legit Way.

2) Just move the game back to C:\Program Files\ :nodding: 3) To have it where ever u want: So ur game is still on the other partition/harddisk. U can config a lot o stuff with regedit, especially in Windows itself, by the way. When u move the game to an other directory the registry files remain unchanged. The v1.19 patch at least needs to know where the game is located(from InstallPath). So u need to use the Registry Editor and just rename those registry files' directories. But if u don't know how to do this stuff ... well ... :cya: Guide: Start -> Run Type: regedit My Computer -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Blizzard Entertainment -> Warcraft III Warcraft III: InstallPath = from C:\Program Files\Warcraft III in D:\Warcraft III for example. Program = from C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe in D:\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe for example. War3CD = E:\ no change needed. Warcraft III -> DelOpt0(Savegames) Path0 = C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\save Path1 = C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\save Path2 = C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\save Warcraft III -> DelOpt1(Replays) Path0 = ... Warcraft III -> DelOpt2(Logs) Path0 = ... Path1 = ... Path2 = ... Path3 = ... Warcraft III -> DelOpt3(Errors) Path0 = ... The rest of those registry files u see there are fine.

But now I see that those registry files i specified are gone from registry too if u formatted the boot partition. Then u have to make new registry files if u can't reinstall the game. well.. for just u only option 1 works. get key and reinstall warcraft III.

mirdalnobel;3838540how if like this ERROR: unable to create file 'd:\war craft III \BNUpdate.exe' The system cannot find the path specified. cuase i have same problem and now ...:( thank you

Originally i was having the error message that it could not find the install path, but using the registry i fixed that problem. But now i am having this one (see above) please help

Also, for those people who have the install path error and could not follow the directions (i had to think hard about this myself) There should be 9 entries in the Warcraft III folder in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III folder (note that to view/edit these values you must click on the visable Warcraft III folder as they are not contained in a subfolder) My working values are as follows: (also note that under DATA the file paths are where YOU have stored the game) Name Type Data (Default) REG_SZ Battle.net Gateways REG_MULTI_SZ (A list of your gateways, yours will differ from mine) (here are the ones you will need to edit or add if you are getting the install path error message) InstallPath REG_SZ C:\Program Files \Warcraft III InstallPathX REG_SZ C:\Program Files \Warcraft III Program REG_SZ C:\Program Files \Warcraft III \Warcraft III.exe ProgramX REG_SZ C:\Program Files \Warcraft III \Frozen Throne.exe Survey REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0) War3CD REG_SZ (this is where the CD is located when you play it... so input the disk drive here i.e. D:\) War3XCD REG_SZ (EXACTLY the same as War3CD)

*The variable survey is NOT a String Value, rather it is a DWORD (32-bit) value, and once you rename it keep it at its default value

I hope this helps the people who couldn't follow the above post (and if you see a problem with mine Keitho please correct me)

Hi dude,

I was wondering if you could help me out. I have installed both of them on my comp for the last 10 years or so, well since whenever reign came out. i move allot and have trasfered the files between harddrive to computer back and fourth. i dont seem to be able to find either of my cdkeys (im now in college and never thought i would need it again, iv always been able to run from my external hard drive when in trouble)

since the last update, i think i have 1.21b successfully installed, i cant update further. it gives me an error (i dont know if i skipped some files during my last transfer between hardrives or something) saying :::

================================================

Blizzard PrePatch v2.70 compiled on Jul 7 2003 This program patches Warcraft 3

Log created at 8:23 pm on 06/13/2008

Registry error loading key 'Warcraft III\InstallPath' The system cannot find the file specified.

RESULT: Prepatch failed

================================================

i looked around for an newer version of the file you mentioned that retrives your cdkey but cant find one. hence i am having trouble reisntalling. also i had not run an update on bnet since i think christmas.

any help would be great. thanks

I'm writing this guide for people who for one reason or another did not install/properly install WC3 but still need updates to go where they are supposed to. I saw no thread/reply specifically addressing this so I will do so. I repeat, if you just happen to have WC3 and don't want to/cant re-install it, follow my lead. It is noteworthy that you can modify the registry in this manner and still install updates despite having a No-CD Crack. Step by step, people:

To open up your registry editor Start->Run->regedit

To find where the install path should go: My Computer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE

Create the first folder: Right Click within the "SOFTWARE" registry key (folder) and click: New->Key Name it "Blizzard Entertainment"

Create the second folder: Right Click within the "Blizzard Entertainment" registry key (folder) and click: New->Key Name it "Warcraft III"

Create the install path: Right Click within the "Warcraft III" registry key (folder) and click: New->String Value Name it "InstallPath"

Modify the install path: Right Click on the "InstallPath" string value and click: Modify Name it the place in your computer directory that the Warcraft III folder can be found. Here's the important part: You must add an additional \ next to every \ that gives the location of the directory. Apparently its a registry rule. Example: C:\Documents and Settings\flyerfye\Desktop\Warcraft III becomes C:\\Documents and Settings\\flyerfye\\Desktop\\Warcraft III

Now "OK" out of everything and close your Registry Editor.

Now run Warcraft III (I don't think it matters TFT or ROC but I used Frozen Throne).

Connect to Battle.net.

Let it update and restart.

You have the new version of Warcraft without having to screw around too much.

As a note, this worked for me on XP, with updating Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. I didn't have to uninstall and reinstall either the game or even my NoCD crack. I get my cracks from FreeInfoSociety.com which happens to be a very nice site (just search for them). Updates work and I'm on a laptop. Im assuming this will also work for all you people who just want to edit the install path except you dont have to create registry key folders and simply have to modify the install path. If you liked this guide, thank me. And install Ubuntu.
