I have a question, and it might seem rather vauge, but before i get to that...
I've been making WC3 maps since i got the game...about a year ago, a month after i got the game, i noticed this "World Editor" thing people kept mentioning, so i played around with it, but never did anything serious...I've now been making small...usually small or medium sized Melee Maps, never touching the triggers...just for personal use mind you, i never uploaded them. I want to start a project, and while most everyone says "Don't Jump Into A Big Project" i really need to do this. I like epic sized maps, always thought they were so much fun, lots to explore, game doesn't end in 30 minutes or so, and i want to make an Epic sized rpg, just to make triggers with, and play with, i plan to start an RPG Trilogy over the summer.
I tried starting it and i made some very basic triggers, give my character 10 levels when the game starts ect. Now i did this testing on a tiny sized map. I want to make my first epic map, and when i created a new Ashenvale forest field (night elves are my favourite) it was so big! So i ask, How Should I Start? let me elaborate on that: when you create a blank map, for a custom trigger game and what not, what should you do first? plant trees? or make triggers? Where on the map do you start putting stuff down on? one of the corners and work your way out?
And lastly, can people please tell me what they'd like to see in an RPG, i want this to be a good one, and not just run-of-the-mill...Tell me what makes a good RPG map in your opinion...I think perhaps by the time i'm confident enough, when i make my map trilogy, it will have a story...you know, big plot twist at the end, all that good stuff ;)
This would really help me greatly, hopefully by the end of the summer i can make a great map that everyone will love!
Well before starting anything, with an RPG you want to make sure that you have a solid timeline. Go ahead and plan it on the side. What characters? What quests? What layouts? What loot? When do the characters gain a level? etc.
So after you plan it then make your map's layout based on what you answered in you "Planning Page". When you have the layout the way you want it, go ahead and complete the triggers. If you have trouble with the triggers feel free to ask here for assistance :)
Hope this helps and good luck!
thanks, i've already started on your advice...i've been writing out what i plan to happen in the story, the maps general layout...i'm not sure how many elven words i can come up with for items! lol but that does help, thank you.
Well, you made me curious to the project... what's it all about?
I'm going to begin work on a 3 (mabey more, depending on the popularity) trilogy of maps, an RPG. I plan to begin around mid June, so that i'll have enough time to practice with triggers. (sorry it took me so long to respond, i've been busy :P)
well...i won't tell you the main story line because 1. it's still in working (i'm still typing it all up ;)) and 2. it'd ruin the fun :P BUT...my story is going to focus around the nightelves, before the other races evolved into their own peoples and nations, the other races will be there, but only as mercs and NPCs...I've seen a lot of RPGs with story lines copied from other movies and video games, i don't like that, i'd rather have a unique story line and with some help, hopefully it will be something everyone will love! And now...for the intro of the story...
"In the times long before the Humans or any other race's began to stake their claim to land in the world of Azeroth, The night elves reigned surpreme...While powerful and dangerous the nightelven controlled land of Kalimdor still had some problems of it's own. The Nightelves while still having a functioning Government, relied on their Gods for protection and aid. After the Great (and rather bloody) Seperation between the Nightelves and the High Bourne, Heros of both sides became amazingly powerful...god-like even...These heros began to convince the people that the gods spoke to them...eventually leading to their worship by less powerful and god-fearing peoples. Some of the heros starting dictating over their worshippers, and killing their subjects for insignifigant crimes, they ruled by fear, and an effective rule it is...After only 10 years the false elven gods established themselves powerful nations, at constant religious war with each other. The other heros rebelled agianst the false gods, but their support was small, and their battles difficult. With such little support, the rebels have a hard time staying in one place for long, constantly hunted...The Tyrannus false gods, and the powerful hero's who oppose them have begun a full out war over Kalimdor and control of the civilized world! The evil gods, or the honorable rebels...where does your destiny lie?"
i think it sounds good, i'm open to constructive criticism on the story, i won't give out the full storyline, but that's mostly a summery of what the RPGs are going to follow, i'm also considering writing a short story to go with it, probebly around 30 pages, 10 for each map... anyway, thats the intro, and what i'm working on basically.
:moved: -> Problems, Errors, Help & Others Intresting plot line, Now lets see where you go with it :)
(sorry for not posting this in the right forum, didn't notice this "help" forum, begin flame posts in 3...2...1...:micro: :smack:...)
