What really gets me going is the fact that if you play DoW online you inevetibly come into contact with people who, when they encounter close combat infantery with their ranged dudes they just start them jogging around a turret or some other squads, just going round and round and round. I've got nothing against the fact that one would retreat to a turret or busy the enemy until reinforcments arive, but at least stand and fight ya damn cowards. Some people try and tell me that misusing the fact that assault troops need some time to strike by just running and running is a strategy or a tactic, well IT'S A CHEAP TRICK. It wouldn't work in a real fight or in the tabletop version of WarHammer.

Well I do it, when I played online. But that was from the clear fact I didn't want that unit dying from a rushing combat army. If they want to fight dirty with me, I'll fight dirty with them. Trust me, never rush my base, it is full of minefields.

I play tau so i can't rely on minefields or turrets :( I do that trick, coz it works =p And i don't have to worry if other people do that, coz i can outgun them and always go for mont'ka. 3 Barricdas, 2 hammerheads, 2 devilfish, 2 broadsides, 1 pathfinder squad, ethereal, honor guard, commander, 4 fire warrior squads and 1 kroot squad are my typical army. Outgun that bitch!

its called dancing i believe in this game. Being a starcraft player i call it microing tho. Good way of keep units alive and distracting people, i was reading a mod the other day, Skirmish one i think, and it said it can make the PC dance.

Unless you dance, there's no way you'll ever get to this army.

Dancing is a very often used tactic, for a very simple reason. Devoted Meele troops tend to have a generally far higher HP than their ranged counterparts, and even if they do less damage, this is negated by the fact that the ranged unit can't fire. So don't even try attacking a good player unless you actually outsquad him. As long as he has at least one turret, lp or squad more than you present, you will loose. Unless you have something like shackles.

And for the record - DOW is not tabletop. Further unless you dance meelee troops get a wee bit overpower. Also keep in mind that all moving troops have a 10% accuracy on ranged weapons. Unless flamers or necrons.

Yeah i know, but there are other ways to deal with that than dancing, like idd a turret or as IG garrison a building or as tau have a squad of kroot move in and support with fire warriors. the melee part of the battles in DoW is a huge part of why i like the game so much and to see it getting negated by a cheap trick just pisses me of.

Take it this way, a turret is expensive and a turret definitely does not manage to save a ranged squad before it would be annihilated by ranged fire. And when you think of it, about every meelee unit has ways to get to the enemy unscathed or get to them sans problemos.

ASM - jump Raptors - likewise Zerker - sorcerer shackles seer council plus shees - fleet of food plus guardian entangle Flayed - drop orks - well meelee is more or less a wall for their big gunz Tau - we can juuuuuuump far + trap greys + charge

etc etc etc

It's Called RTS Savvy And in real life people do move and shoot a lot. "A static Target is a dead target" And 40k is not really about mellee it's about who has the biggest and meanest guns around. I you wanna play a mellee based warhammer P.C game, best go play the Fantasy version instead. And I've had it with people always trying to put the tabletop trump card when it comes to this series. remember this is an RTS game. Not some static figures on a battlefield tabe. At best it's more or less the Dev's(Relic) interpretation of TT done in a real-time setting.
