Hi there fellow humans :cya: I was arguing with my self earlier :Puzzled: and I came upon a conclusion, DoW is better than EaW, but then, it hit me, well, my sister did, told me to shut up and go to sleep already, but the point is, IS DoW better than EaW? I leave that to you.
Both games are good. I like the combination of linear and non-linear campains in EaW (I think its waaaaay better than the non-linear campain in DC).
Points for EaW: 1. Space. No two ways about it - having a huge fleet of intergalactic starships trading massive volleys with other equally huge ships is just plain cool to watch. I will often set my fleet into the thick of the battle and turn on the cinematic mode and watch. 2. Movie Mode. Getting to watch the battles like they're movies is just plain cool, even though the camera sometimes is annoying. 3. Squad based. I love squad-based RTS. Even the lighter vehicles come in squads, but operate individually. Too cool. 4. Easy to mod. All you need is Notepad and you can change all the XML files. Yes, the game code is in XML format. 5. The whole galactic thing. Managing your resources and waging war over an entire galaxy is cooler than just over one battlefield.
Points against EaW: 1. You can't reinforce squads. If you lose a stormie in a firefight, thats it. He's dead. You can't add him back. And you also can't add heavy weapons to your squads. 2. There isn't much need for micro - you dont need to build bases, collect resources (unless you play skirmish - but your base is still pre-built). While this can be a plus, eventually, when you know the game well enough, you sort of miss the micro. 3. Reinforcements. There's no deep-strike in EaW. You have to bring troops down from orbit into designated drop zones. I think having a sort of base of operations near your primary drop zone would be better, and then you can call units from orbit whereever you need them. Sort of like putting a few dreads in an orbital relay and dropping them into the middle of the enemy. 4. Only two races. You can only be either the Rebellion or the Empire (unless you have the expansion, then you can be the Consortium, too). This isn't as good as the current 7 in DC (soon to be 9 races in SS). They are distinct from each other, though. There are also the pirates, but you can't play as them.
Overall, EaW is a great game. So is DoW. I enjoy both of them (currently I enjoy DoW more, but that's me). My point: get both, and play both.
I agree, space battles own. And campaign is much better in EaW but, DoW has better land battles, and it's more unique, not just the races, but the units too, and the detail on them is amazing.
ya gota argree there, EAW is more space orented (as is most of star wars) and i love the movie fetrure. but land battles get dull and land units just feel boring, i love space though thats what makes EAW fun. DOW is more of a convetual RTS like starcraft and has great tatical land battles, campain is ify but skerm and multi is fun, it may be harder to mod but hay most of the DOW mods are great and its worth the extra efort
True, if they didn't have space battles in EaW, nobody would play it, only die hard star wars fans. And DoW doesn't really need, what it needs is bigger maps and bigger units, titans and such.
Meh, I think DoW could use space battles. Or atleast a once-per game ability, like a lance strike for the Imperium...

Ye DoW would look cool with space battles. Perhaps ironlore will make it? They made air units so why not space? :)
warhammer is not a space game, star wars is, shur there is battle fleet gothic mod coming out but rilly, it would never work. not being cinicle but its just not warhammer. just cus we can do air sosent mean space should be done
well, I prefer DOW,over EAW, well if I had what I wanted, I would mix SWBF2 with both DOW and EAW^_^ but thats me also.
