What would make Dawn of War an even better game: 1. When a squad makes a kill that squad should gain experience. With this experience the player can upgrade the squad but also at the same time sacrifice some things about the squad (i.e. speed, rate of fire, vulnerability to certain types of damage). As the unit survives more battles in the game, that squad becomes more valuable (and more unique). 2. Let us download maps from other people IN GAME. 3. Three words: Walls block Bullets. Add the "block line of sight projectile" feature and have all impassable objects block line of sight projectiles as well. Maybe even the % of the projectiles get through (i.e. broken walls). Having every unit equipped it seems with rail-guns that go through anything is right out of that movie "The Eraser". Maybe make an upgrade that allows you to do that (who knows). In effect - no shooting through walls (or mountains and hills for that matter). Tree might even absorb projectiles shot through it. This could make the game more strategic. Or maybe that anything that already block movement into an area (wall or cliff) blocks weapon fire as well for line of sight weapons (like lasers, sniper rifles and bolters) When it comes to infantry, let the environment (like walls and craters) protect troops more. The of the exceptions would be indirect fire. The drawback is that the infantry's ability to deal damage is diminished because he is activly taking cover. Make it a selection maybe. Also, infantry hiding behind vehicles would not take damage, the vehicle would. 4. Make the mod situation more stable. Let us play around with the game a little more... 5. Allow the Admin more power over the game. What makes a good game is the ability to boot and ban idiots that cheat and degrade the fun. Give them the power to increase cap cap size and even maybe how much fog of war does not stick around ( for instance, in Dawn of War, once you see a building, you can see it even after you lose sight of it). Booting or banning by IP or Game code is very effective. Put the power back into the host's hands and you will see a better behaved crowd. 6. Certain aspects of infantry and other weapons should be taken into consideration. For in instance, weapons over heat and jam. Let them. Do they ever run out of ammo? Maybe a squad or tank may run out and need a refit at base. Maybe even a unit (a vehicle maybe) that refits ammo to squads... 7. Allow the players to decide if they want to download the map they will likely play or not and have the decision to have the map wiped from their hard drive after they play it or not (one they would wish to keep) 8. Allow the squads to auto use their abilities in certain situations (like frag grenades when they are in range of infantry that are doing the most damage to them) 9. Allow upgrades in all buildings and units to be qued (flashing box - you know) so that they may be like adding units to a squad or as building one. 10. Auto repair for workers (maybe set for repairing buiilding vs vehicles) 11. Add drawing on the suits of the race you are playing - like the badges and banners. 12. Built in Map editor 13. Make certain armors so they are impervious to certain kinds of damage (grott pistols harming a Dread's armor?) Maybe have missiles not "locking on" to certain things - like units in water for instance - or units in heavy cover... who knows? 14. I know this may sound Starcraftish but have Stim packs for squads? Make then take damage (permanent damage? [insert say ‘no to drugs’ here) from chemicals that make them shoot faster OR run faster OR even rage harder in close combat. And yes I know about the mad doc. 15. Three words: Armor Breaks Down. Make amour units have a certain percentage chance that when they take a certain amount of damage, they become disabled in some way (i.e. they lose the ability to move fast - or at all, they lost the ability to fire - or at all - or they might even explode - doing massive damage in their blast radius...) This could apply to jamming of weapons of certain units as well... - for a period of time of course (they clean their weapon)) 16. Two words: friendly fire. I see a lot of bullets flying, Why not make a % chance that a stray bullet may hit a friendly unit in the confusion of battle? 17. Track stats on what you do in game (whether you team kill, drop, support your team well, ect.) Let other players know with whom they are playing. Are they playing with a team killing dropping greifer or an honorable person who likes to have fun and is not mad at the world. Relic made a cool game - these points might make it better - what do YOU think? HarmlessHamster

well, for one, I like the idea of having "bullets not going through walls" and making some kind of cover for the ground troops. Another thing to think about to is battle damage to units. I mean when one gets hit with a rocket "point blank" ...... you dont "fly into the sky" YOU EXPLODE! especally when you get hit with a dozen rockets. What might be cool is to show battle damage to units. "ripped off limbs" and be able to add a medic to each squad that you make instead of having a CAP of four. The same thing with tanks show signs of battle damage. On top of this I think it would be cool to add battle damage to the terrain, so when a tree gets hit with a rocket it explodes same thing with buildings and other stuctures.

Some good input to be sure. BUT . . had the relic forums not deleted many origional posts you might have had some info already. As far as shooting through walls . . twas me who inquired(first) last november why they allow units to shoot through walls. Also forgive me but my 6 month vacation from the game allowed relic to remove most info,(including most of my old schtuff, except my 6plyr map Ancient Keep(1.0f) . . . .is still hot :naughty: ) They stated then that to do this would tax comps so much more having to calculate hits and misses on stationary objects such as buildings and walls. With the current game engine it would crush most comps to the point of unplayability. Aparrently theres alot more going on behind the scenes already than meets the eye. It is completly up to mappers to prevent the ability to get close enough to allow this. Thus making mapping much(MUCH!!) more difficult . But not impossible.:uhm: Creative mappers just have to add another dimension to their concepts under development. BTW . . new map under development here(IG/Orkie theme . . . will be ready in about a month or so.

I didn't know you talked about walls being made of paper long ago in forums. Sorry. Battle Scarring - makes for a good game! That sounds cool. Limbs missing? Replace then at your medic station with a ranged weapon or a giant Morning Star! Cap of 4? OK.OK. friendly fire and running out of ammo - bad idea. You're right. But you have to think that people would choose wisely to make an attack if they knew they had limited ammo... When it comes to friendly fire - it could (most possibly would) make for great potential for greifing. It just seems like a boxing match - one mass against another - hardly any strategy anymore in RTS. BTW Love the map Ancient Keep - good map.

And thanks for trying the map . Gonna be a few weeks for my new one is done . . but I believe im on track to a kewl new map. . . . .I hope . . . :cya:

The game needs to not shoot through walls. Allow some static obsticles. Put on scout penalty again!!! If your a scout running your ass off, you should not be accurate. STOP, DROP, and SHOOT!. STOP balancing. You balance to only unbalance. Have a point and click map generator for us noobs. That would be a real turn on. Allow for take and hold, grab the objective type missions, and others like rear guard and cleanse. It would be fun to have an 8 way take and hold of an item while ppl run around with it and get shot up. Fire relics head manager! Then beat him with hot dog juice and sticks.

Now that you know what turns you on, put it on your dating profile :) Just joshing ya man. No offense. I totally agree with an easy to use map editor - make it like paint shop pro or photoshop. You really ARE painting a map. Some are masterpieces and a pleasure to play and some others are so bad you want to eat last year's thanksgiving turkey rather than play it. But - Relic - Please no more shooting through walls - you can do it - just do. One more thing: Allow for 12 players! Now THAT would be a blast... HH

Straight up, scouts should be pathetic fighters. They are fast, cheap and quick to build yet they can kill an equally sized guardian squad that costs more and takes longer to build o_O:uhm:

I love Space Marines and I am glad they made the Scouts tougher - they eat their veggies! HH
