hey, i just downloaded the dawn of war 2, full game via steam(and then found out is was cheaper via d2d....) played for about an hour or so, and couldnt stand it. Maybe i missed a few qand a's with the devs, or maybe i just somehow lost my love of DoW in about a day, but dawn of war 2 just isnt very fun. there are no seige units, no buildings(i can make a turret.....whoopdie freakin due) there are less units, the commanders seem nerfed(might be just me) the regular units are more powerfull, and building take forever to destroy, i had 4 squads of space marines shooting at a turret, took them amazingly long to destroy, especialy considering they wouldve destroyed in almost no time at all, one measly turret....HAH! not anymore. i dont know about ou guys, but this sort of feels like a major Company of Heros mod, rather than a graphically enhanced dawn of war. i guess i am being a little too picky, since i plan to play it more just because i KNOW somebody will make a mod to MAKE it a graphically enhanced version of DoW1....basically i was wondering if any1 else has siillar sentiments or if im alone on these thoughts.....:(

I get the feeling that you haven't really read much about DoW2 prior to release.

It's been common knowledge for a long time that there'd be no base building, and no "siege" units. Mind you, Assault Marines are like short-range artillery when the jump and land.

I played the MP Beta, and was by and large satisfied with it. Smaller armies, less vehicles, no base building. I loved it. It's not a game about large scale war, but smaller scale battles. The only thing I didn't like in the Beta was the balance patch. Eldar were truly worse off afterward, and 3v3 battles had a stupidly high requisition rate depending on how much of the battle field your team controlled.

That, and the bugged Venom Cannon on the Hive Tyrant. Rapid firing pwn-everything-gun!

Still, we'll see how the release day patch sorts those and any other problems.

As for the part I'm most looking forward to, the singleplayer campaign.... Well, I live in Britain, so I don't get to play until tomorrow (20th Feb). That extra day's wait makes me a sad-panda.:(

Still, at the end of the day, DoW2 isn't DoW, and that's your problem. Whilst Relic said that the game wouldn't be modding friendly, you'll just have to wait and see what the modding community can come up with. Hopefully for you, and others like you, a mod will come out that addresses some of your concerns.

actually, i never said i didnt like the game, i actully love it, and yes the campaign is fun, but once again, am i stupid or is there just a sm campaign? also, the game is great, but its not a great Dawn of war game. Fun rts, but DoW has tons of units races, and they are all unique, with defenses and custimization, so on and so forth. i havent played mp yet, but in the campaign at least you cant even upgrade squads, only their commander. So the point is, once again, only clearer i guess, is any1 else dissapointed in this game? not by fun-ness, but by DoW-ness...if that makes sense to anybody?

Nope, you're not stupid. Just like vanilla DoW, there is only a SM campaign.

Jimmy Ebbert talked of other races getting campaigns by either expansions or DLC. So, we've just got to wait and see.

In many ways, DoW was pretty much an RTS game that had the WH:40K IP pasted onto it.

One thing it really could have benefitted from imo, was smaller squad sizes for some races, and better pathfinding. I made a few personal mods for DC after playing the Closer to Codex mod for WA, which oddly enough wound up with similar squad sizes to DoW2.

Ultimately though, it's not about being a great DoW game. It's about it being a good/great WH:40K game. The campaign is supposed to show the SM (specificly Blood Ravens) as the unstoppable juggernauts of the Imperium, as they are often depicted in the fluff.

Again, for the campaign, you're controlling what available forces the Blood Ravens have at their disposal for the defense of sub-sector Aurelia.

As for upgrading squad leaders only..... Heck, maybe that's how the Blood Ravens work in these circumstances. Not all SM Chapters adhere totally to the codex, which allows Relic to play about with their Chapter. Plus, it provides a more WH:40K feel to it.

If/when they implement the IG (in general, not specific forces) they'll have to make some more "radical" changes to depict them.

Ultimately, this game isn't about throwing a massive army at the enemy. You use the forces at your disposal to defeat "insurmountable odds", and appear really heroic for it.

I'd recommend playing the first Ground Control game if I thought you'd like it, but you don't seem like the kind of gamer who prefers a tactical focused RTS game.

I wasn't that impressed with the game, it didn't capture my attention as much as DoW did when its own beta came out.

Game wasn't great. Although it was a hell of alot better than CoH (Better) CoH was a great game but the missions took FOREVER to complete.....although that is majorly due to the fact that I play VERY slowly and make sure that all of my men survive. I gotta say this though:

Relic can really make you care about soldiers. In every other RTS I had no problem sending thousands of my men to their doom but in CoH\DoW2 I alway made sure everyone made it home. Relic did an awesome job of giving faces to the soldiers.

BUT it is not DoW. WH:40k is meant for huge epic battles not black ops style special missions.

THIS IS WH:40K!!!! YouTube - Warhammer Dawn of War - Firestorm Over Kronus 3.0

All in all I rate DoW2 as a good game but a horrible WH:40k game on par with firewarrior.

And sl4sh.......I'm going to go to your house, murder you, eat all your cheetos, and steal your "stash"......have a good day :D

Fyurii, as said, i DO like tactical rts's, if i didnt i wouldnt be playing DoW2 at all, and am actually playing it a lot. However, despite the fact that the game is fun or not fun, i dont really recall any instances in saythe tabletop game, or the original wh40k that fetured so few units and so little custimisation options for the squad itself. i DO recall being seiged by ****loads of orks as an IG player, and constantly barraging them with my basalisks to create an opening that i can punch through with a baneblade and some karskin squads, maybe an ogryn or two! but in this, there isnt a defense...almost everything is played out with infantry, only a few vehicles, no arty, squad weapons, defense fortifications! thats NOT warhammer, even in the tabletop you could have turrets and walls and bunkers t place, but not this one...nope. SO ONCE AGAIN! as an RTS it is a fairly good game, BUT!!!!! as a WARHAMMER RTS IT IS not so good.

great Dawn of war game. Fun rts, but DoW has tons of units races, and they are all unique, with defenses and custimization,

To be honest I've got a feeling that DOW2 is closer to TT than dow 1.

And apparent from the unplayable end of the beta due to the bugged venom cannon and plasma devs I love. It's a lot more fun than dow 1 to be honest. So right now when I walk trough here, will I get utterly wasted in under a second or will I actually manage to set up and stuff like that :)

SO ONCE AGAIN! as an RTS it is a fairly good game, BUT!!!!! as a WARHAMMER RTS IT IS not so good.

This again comes down to your preference I think. If you've played a lot of auto matches instead of QS kasyr lutien you're far more used to the low amount of squads that are on the field and to pamper each and every of those squads for as long as they have their worth. Because you just don't have the resources to waste them.

I Rathered injoy this game best 14 bucks I spent in my life (I pawned in 4 games mind you!) Ah the pre-order wargear is good as well. I enjoy this new type of warhammer. I always hated base building anyways. So to foucs on the squads now make it feel more life like I guess too lil' old me. Warhammer Dawn of war 2 10/10
