My friends were working on this for a long time now. We are trying to prove our math teacher wrong. Ok here goes: Rrmember: 0.999~ ~ = infinite so, 0.999~ = 0.999999999999999999........ so on... ok, 1/1 = 1 No arguement about that. 1/3 = 0.333~ Correct also 1/3 * 3 = 1 Correct and, 0.333~ * 3 = 0.999~ so that must mean, 0.999~ = 1 right? ~NOTE~ I am not a nerd. We just hate our math teacher.

ok,

1/1 = 1 No arguement about that.

1/3 = 0.333~ Correct also

1/3 * 3 = 1 Correct

and,

0.333~ * 3 = 0.999~

so that must mean,

0.999~ = 1

Sounds about right to me, you have an infinate chain of decimals, and as it goes on forever it is counted as 1. if it stopped somewhere, even if it was 34 billion decimals places down it would be incorrect, but as that is not the case 0.999~ = 1 is correct.

ok, in simplier terms 1/3 = 0.333~ 2/3 = 0.666~ 3/3 = 0.999~ And we all know that, 3/3 = 1

No I am not rounding it off. Look at the equations Here is another equation, .999~ = X 9.999~ = 10X So, 9.999~ - .999~ = 10X - X 9 = 9X 1 = X Therefore, .999~ = 1

I hate math and suck at it, but 0.99~ is only 1 when rounded, but im not sure

look at it this way:

does 999,999 = 1,000,000?

~AzH~look at it this way: does 999,999 = 1,000,000?

999,999 =/= 1,000,000 999,999.999~ = 1,000,000 1,000,000/3 = 333,333.333~ 333,333.333~ = 1/3 of 1,000,000 and, 1/3 * 3 = 1 so, 333,333.333~ * 3 = 999,999.999~ 3/3 of 1,000,000 = 999,999.999~ 3/3 of 1,000,000 = 1,000,000

does an endless chain of numbers (.9999999999~) equal infinity? yea. so i think u r right myself. i like your reasoning the 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 thing. pretty cool.
